30 day shred question

Hi, sorry one for the girls following the 30 day shred
How heavy are the weights you are using for this routine?
I'm not sure what to pick
thanks

  • Started with 0.5 kg / one pound weights, and moved up. I finished Level 1 when I could use 3kg weights comfortably, but now use 2kg weights on Level 2 and that's tough on me.

With Level 1 of Shred, you'll probably find some of the exercises (Chest flies come to mind) too easy if you use the same weights for all the strength exercises, but hey, a little moment of relative repose is all good, as far as I'm concerned. But I am not that strong. One girl I know does Level 2 and Level 3 back to back with eight kg weights. She is exceptional, though.

My advice is to start light and to keep challenging yourself when you start to get even slightly comfortable.

start with whatever suits you I have used 1, 2, and 3kg weights at different times of fitness. I am going to start again and I am going back down to unfit fat girls 1kg...... yep starting over!

I am using 3kg weights, but do find that it is taking me longer to progress onto the next levels just because they're holding me back! I can manage like 15 reps of anterior raises with 3kg in the gym, so when you have to do it consistently for a whole minute, it's a bit much. I don't have lighter weights though, so I'm just gonna have to deal with nice strong and toned arms :P If I could though, I would use 2kg weights, just so I could perform the exercises properly and still get the workout

On the video they're using 5lb weights, about 2.5kg, but it's recommended that beginners start with 3lb weights (a little over 1kg). I'm using 2kg weights because I can't find 5lbers and they've definitely been challenging enough - only two more days to go!

I found with both 30DS and RI30 that I need a selection of weights to hand - some exercises I can do with my 2 kg weights, but for others I need lighter ones (I uses 0.5 l water bottles or tins of soup)

I am using 3kg as well but found some moves hard with that weight. Not done it though in a long time and have been concentrating on lifting so might be easier now.

but as soon as i do find some weights (everything is kind of hard to find here on Guam) I'm going to get 3 pound and 5 pound weights.

I think it's a question of how much you can handle. My advice start easy and if you feel you can handle more just start adding.
I read someone using soup cans, that's a good idea if you do not have weights. You can also use water bottles

i started off using 2.5lb weights and that was enough for me, even too heavy in places at the start. I am on level 3 now and use 5lb weights most of the time, and just swap to the lower weights for a few things, (like the V Fly's in level 2) as i would rather do more reps and keep up with Jillian and the girls than lift too heavy and only do a few reps, but thats just me!
Just do what feels right and push on when you think you need to, you will know when it feels too easy!

I feel like a wimp! I am only using 2lb weights! I will bump it up to 3lbs soon, though.

I am using 3lbs (level 1). On some of the excersies I wish I had bigger and on some I wish I had smaller. Think I need to buy 2 & 5lbs to switch things up a little. Good luck.
