I am just noticing a trend here since I've been watchin calroie intake.
And it seems that the few days before TOM I am just hungrier and can't seem to get enough to eat. Then after I start, I'm hardly hungry at all!!
Oh wonderful hormones!!
Just curious if I'v the only one????

haha, but I try to eat healthy stuff... its my TOM now and i just remembered I have a half of a chocolate bar in my purse......0 -
I'm right there with ya... some months it's worse than others. It stinks to have to fight an uphill battle for a few days or a week out of each month, doesn't it?!?!0
-
Choclate Bar!! lol!!
I've made every "healthy" chocolate thing I can think of and STIlL WANT some good ole Graeters black raspberry chip! But I did't give in. Instead I got WW frozen snicker bars. HAven't ahd one of those yet either...lol But now that you mention it....
Will try to drink some water and see if I can't "fool" myself into not eating anymore tonight. Think tomorrow will definitely be better!0 -
I am right there with you! The same thing happens to me every month... right before my TOM I'm starving all day long, even right after I eat! But then my hunger disappears during. So your not alone at all! Just try to keep eating heathy!0
-
I notice it too. But its not just 'snaking' hungry... I'm actually HUNGRY where I can't get enough to eat. So I just eat. I figure it evens out for those days where I just don't feel like eating all my calories. :happy:0

I know this is way off topic but i wonder how many guys that just start MFP wonder some weird thoughts with the TOM postings :laugh:0

I'm usually hungrier before, but afterward I always notice that I'm CRABBY!! (So stand back a few feet from me for the next few days!) :laugh:I know this is way off topic but i wonder how many guys that just start MFP wonder some weird thoughts with the TOM postings :laugh:0

Especially if their name is Tom... they probably run away screaming "what'd I do!?!?!" :noway:0 -
I try to fll up on healthy stuff and then allow room for chocolate so long as I stay under my calorie count. I also walk alot but if I had no chocolate the crabbiness would be unbearable LOL I am going through it right now. I'm still getting the hang of all this though. :P0

I remember a guy on one of the posts said. " I don't know who this TOM guy is. Why are u all pissed at him? What'd he do?!" haha it was awesome :P0 -
Yep didn't know who TOM was. I have since gathered the info rather quickly though.0

And you'll be paying for it for the rest of your life... :flowerforyou:0 -
I want red meat when I have my TOM and not just 4 oz like a whole plate of it. I also want chocolate to. And I am starving the whole time but i try my hardest to be good.0

I totally was going to ask if people were hungrier before that and forgot! I totally realized last time that Im NEVER satisfied right before and my will power seams to disappear so I looked back at other TOMs and totally saw a trend of eating way more a few days before. I figure its your body trying to stock up so it has enough energy to do daily stuff and do that girly stuff? lol i dunno Im no biologist!0

i'm always starving the 2 days before, and then the first day.....not only for snack and chocolate but just anything. i'm like a bottomless pit. and then during the rest of toms visit i'm hardly hungry at all but still have a hard time passing up chocolate
nanimo bars are my worst enemy while toms here because i could eat them endlessly0 -
Before and during for me. I'm usually good about eating as well as I can as long as I can have a little bit of chocolate. I bought a bunch of Cadbury Eggs to last me a while. I allow myself one per month and as long as I get my chocolate fix everything's all good. lol0

:flowerforyou: Question from a guys point of view. Is this intake controllable or uncontrollable? I know menstruation requires extra caloric intake. Sooo... Does this have to come from candy or chocolate? I can tell when the roomie's TOM is when she loads up on candy. Is this just a craving or what? I have seen some of the other ladies post that they can't put down the sweets during TOM. Just wondering.
Any and all info is appreciated.:flowerforyou:0 -
I'm just like you. Ravenous and would chew through the walls if I could get away with it beforehand :blushing: Then once I start I have no interest in food. After I'm just back to 'normal'0

I think its partly because the hormones put girls in a really foul mood so they stock up on comfort food the feel happier0 -
The fact that guys posted here cracks me the heck up!.......I'm very glad to see they are eager to learn though :bigsmile:0

Wow!! A lot has happened since I asked this question... I have to admit, I feel better knowing that I'm not the ONLY one who struggles with this.
I'm glad to see guys interested as well.
My husband said that you burn 30% more calories at TOM, but doesn't mean we should eat them...lol
I remember seeing something about craving chocolate at TOM because of something in it. Not sure about the sweets though.
I usually want chocolate and salty things. And the red meat thing too! I made pot roast!! haha0 -
You don't realise how interested we actually are in this TOM! Knowing your enemy is one step closer to winning the war! Well I just don't like the mood swings. I thought people could control themselves. Maybe Im seeing the worst of it in my roomate. She has horrible mood swings and on these days I HATE her! Not really but you get the drift! Can she control this or is it overwhelming? I figured since this happens once a month that you could control it?.. Maybe but what do I know? Im just a guy.0

The TOM affects married men too. I notice when it arrives in the house we go out to dinner a lot more often. Oh, and personally my beer consumption increases for a week. :drinker:
Probably the best thing we've discovered is that massage helps tremendously. It's good strength training for me to have to give her a massage for 30 minutes a day for a week.

I think it depends on the person. For me sometimes it is virtually not-controllable, but more often than not I can handle it. It's difficult to explain, I guess. It's certainly not "all mental" as some men suggest! :noway:0 -
 That's too funny about the poor guy who wanted to know what TOM did!!
I had a very hard time about two days before TOM and I was like what the heck? I was off schedule so I wasn't expecting it and I wondered why I suddenly couldn't get enough chocolate no matter what I did!!!! I only had a really hard time for about two days and then one more day towards the end. So it was all mostly at the begining and I was hurting to bad to so my excercise so it was the only time since I started this a month ago that I went over on my calories. I hate TOM for doing that to me!!!!!0 -
Mine showed up a week early (blah!), and haven't noticed a difference in appetite, other than craving really naughty food (greasy, nasty cheeseburgers, etc)
Roylawrence, have you ever heard of that tiny critter in south america that gets so overpowered by hormones it has to mate continually until it dies? It goes completely psycho. Well, women are similar once a month, except instead of trying to mate, our urge is to stomp our feet, throw things, cry uncontrollably, and otherwise kill people. Chocolate helps prevent the last part. It's not really controllable. It's more biomechanics. We just want to curl up into a tiny ball, disappear, and die.0 -
There was a really great post a while back about foods that people crave during that TOM....and it had to do with the hormones and the levels of different chemicals in the body that make you want to turn to sweets or salty foods....or high in fat foods...it was quite interesting but it was almost a year ago that it was posted =/0
