I broke a 7 month plateau!

After months of workin hard and pushing myself to the limit, I broke the plateau. I did a body composition test 2 weeks ago, and took the same one today and it showed a loss of 4.2 pounds. A loss of 1.2% body fat! I couldn't be happier and more excited.

The measuring tape and mirror changes have been apparent but this is the first significant move in the right direction for the scale.

Wahhhhoooo!!

I changed nothing food wise but I increased my cardio sessions from 30 to 45/60 minutes and stopped doing hiit entirely focusing on a 110-128 HR range.

A rhr of 48 is quite slow- you MAY want to bring that to the attention of your doctor. I can't say with any certainty if that's acceptable or not for you and your body.

A 180 HR is too high for a fat burn session. That falls into HIIT. I have no science to back it up but my opinion is to limit hiit to 2-3 sessions per week when you are trying to lose fat. It seems that's the online bro-science convention.

Well you must be such a patient person! Plateauing is awful and for 7 months, that must have been so hard. Congratulations x

48 is fine if you exercise regularly...here is a link to the wikipedia article on Athletic heart syndrome...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athletic_heart_syndrome

mine has gotten down to 38-42 range from training, but i had knee surgery last january and couldnt exercise for a few months and it went right back up to the 65 range...the heart is a muscle, it can be conditioned and deconditioned just like the rest of your body. i take pride in my lower heart rate.

I also advise using the Karvonen Heart Rate Calculator for determining your exercise intensity zones when your resting heart rate is low, as this takes it into account. my 60-70% fat burn rate is 130-145 using this formula. here is a link to a zone calculator...

    http://www.briancalkins.com/HeartRate.htm

Hope this info helps, dont be afraid of a low heart rate, it means you are really healthy cardiovascularly.

Hey man, good job not getting discouraged and giving up. Sometimes those plateaus just don't want to get out of the way. But, it's so worth hanging in.

Man, I I can't even comprehend a plateau that long. That sounds like a nightmare !

Nice work keeping heart though. It was the exact right move. Keep it up.

Awesome! I've been stuck for nearly a year and have tried everything.

There's something in the mix that is causing stagnation. It took me a really ridiculously long time and a lot of tweaks to find my problem. Make small changes and monitor them. You'll get there too trust me. I think what helped me though it is knowing I would never quit.
