I normally don't like exercise as I feel too big, heavy, lazy and painful for my arthritis BUT I have overcome the embarrassment factor and recently taken up swimming after a very long gap since my teens really, I am really enjoying this. I feel this is an easy option as don't feel its hard work but on MFP it tells me how many calories I have burned and is a lot compared to say walking. I would appreciate some comments on this subject. Sue

Swimming is typically much more intensive than walking.
A good rule of thumb is to eat back only half the exercise calories to offset errors in estimated caloric expenditure.0 -
Swimming usually burns a lot more calories than walking. In most cases, the count is closer to running than walking.0

Swimming is a brilliant form of excersize, you use more muscles than you realise and the pressure on your lungs always improves your fitness.
I love it and love walking too, you dont have to be a runner or a gym bod to excersize and every small amount counts
Good luck in your activities!0 -
Swimming is fantastic! I've been swimming and doing an Aquafit class since June, and seen great results. Not only have I lost 4 bathing suit sizes, but my doctor described my heart as "slow, steady, and athletic sounding." Can it get better than that?0
