torso rotation question

this may be silly, but are you suppose to do both sides in 1 set? and are your knees suppose to hurt when doing it? Im doing 1 set of 15reps at 20lbs.

I do these from time to time, and I do each side once before I say I'm done with a set, so technically (since I usually do four sets) I end up doing what some might think of as eight sets.
Body should be pretty tight in doing them so that the core is the main focus. I've had a time or two where I lost concentration and ended up with a slight stitch in a hamstring, though.0
