Building Muscle with Insanity and P90X

Hello! I am starting Insanity, however my co-worker has told me she packed on muscle with it. She stopped after the first month because the 2nd month was too hard and she was seeing bulk. I have been doing Insanity and watching month 2 to prep myself for it and I don't see how you would pack muscle weight on if you are overweight without losing BMI first. Can someone help in this as to whether insanity will pack muscle on and not let me lose/be slimmer?
Also, I really like insanity and I think I might start P90X; she wants to do it with me but is afraid of what happened to her during Insanity. Same question--can you pack on muscle and not lose/be slimmer?

Diet and caloric intake will determine if you are gaining or losing, and it's highly unlikely P90X or Insanity would "pack on" muscle as both are gloried cardio programs0 -
INSANITY is mostly cardio, so your coworker was probably just consuming too many calories if she got bigger while doing it. I lost 10-15 lbs during the first half of INSANITY by doing the videos according to their schedule, limiting myself to 1200 net calories and going on runs during my "off" days on Sundays (I was training for a half marathon, so I had to squeeze in some distance runs too).0

In my experience it always seems to be the girls on the heavier side that say they don't like anything but cardio because they don't want to bulk, or get jacked. Honestly this is a load of crap. If people could go from flab to diesel in just a month with some weight training we would be living in a world of body builders. Either her die remained crap, and most will lie to you about this one or not even realize how bad they eat, or she was toning up and the layers of fat over it that were still in process of burning away made her look bigger. I agree with Dorian as well, Insanity is mostly cardio so there would be way more burning than bulking. Tell your friend to evaluate the source when getting facts, it helps tons0

I've done P90X at 230lbs, and while I didn't lose many pounds, I lost inches. I got smaller, not bigger. She must be eating more than she should. Insanity is more cardio than P90X, so she shouldn't be bulking. And if she is overweight like you mentioned, the weight should be melting off (IF she is eating right).0
