I recently moved in with my friend and since ive been here ive gained about 12 pounds
We eat out almost everyday and the food we have at home are pretty much just microwavables. We can't afford to go grocery shopping for the things I'd like to have in the house (college girls' budget) is there anyway I can still lose weight while eating these types of foods and exercising?

You can lose weight eating anything, really, just make sure you track your calories. Also: A box of rice, some veggies, and a bag of frozen chicken is cheap

As long as you are at a caloric deficit then yes you can lose weight while still eating unhealthy foods.0

If you eat out every day, you can afford to go to the grocery store by replacing one with the other.0

Not really sure what you mean by "fatty" in this statement. I eat foods with a lot of dietary fat (like 80-100 grams a day) and can lose just fine. Fast food and microwave food isn't really filled with dietary fat so much as empty carbs and little nutrition. I don't think that you will lose weight in a healthy fashion unless you add something with more substance into your diet.0

Restaurants are expensive. Replace going out to eat with groceries and only budget one meal out a week.0

Track it and stay within your goals and you should be able to lose.
The problem I personally have had in the past trying to lose weight this way is that processed food/junk food is often high in calories for the serving size. It tends to not make me feel full, so I would eat more of it. Small volume/high calories. (Example: kettle-cooked potato chips have about 300 cals per 10 chips, WHAT??) It's far easier to stay within goal if I'm eating things like fruits and vegetables, oatmeal, beans, etc. Larger volume/fewer calories. I still eat junk food of some kind every day, but I try hard to limit the amount.
Just food for thought. :flowerforyou: Good luck!0 -
I'm a college girl so i understand how difficult it is to eat healthy on a budget. As a vegetarian, my staples are eggs, no fat cheddar cheese, a huge bag of rolled oats, almond milk and then whatever is on sale during the week. Maybe you should look into what's on sale at your local grocery store and see what you can do with that. You CAN lose weight eating unhealthily but you'll need to workout to tone up. It's better for your overall health to be.. healthy haha

You said you eat out almost everyday. Stop eating out and use that money for groceries. Going to the grocery store is by far cheaper than eating out. If you are regularly eating out that is costing a lot of money that could be better spent.
Buy what is on sale. Buy in season produce which tends to be much cheaper than the stuff that isn't. Buy beans, rice, etc which can be much cheaper per serving. Frozen meats are also not too pricey or buy fresh when they are on sale. Where I am each week a different meat is on sale at the store we normally go to. I don't eat meat but we do buy that for my husband. You can eat healthy on a budget. Buy store brand names not national ones, buy in season produce, you can get cheaper cuts of meat that are still really good, beans, rice, etc are all pretty cheap.
Frozen meals aren't all that cheap. My husband used to always take the frozen kraft dinner type meals to work for lunches. It worked out to be much cheaper to buy a jar of sauce and a bag of noodles and make them at home. I than mixed it all and threw it in the freexer for him to just grab and take to work with him.0 -
Yes, you can lose weight while eating crap food.
Restaurant food and frozen meals are expensive and really an excuse to avoid cooking the healthy stuff at home. Shop sales. Eat frozen veg vs. fresh if it is cheaper. I know it is tough to buy and cook stuff while in college- I have been there done that- but realize you are just offering us excuses. Eating healthy really isn't expensive, as many of us on this website can prove to you, it just takes more work than ordering take out or buying a heat and eat meal.
In fact, a recent study proved just that...that eating healthy isn't any more expensive:

Search the internet, search these message boards...there are tons of people out there eating very healthy on tight budgets. Good luck!0
