Looking for some advice on starting yoga...at home!

OK so I am thinking I may try yoga at home to help get me back on track. I have a hard time staying on track diet wise, if I am not working my body out, and someone recommended I try yoga, so I thought i would give it a go but...
1) HOW does it help people lose weight?
2) Can you name a good DVD for absolute beginners?
I also just thought of yoga as a relaxation device, but saw a transformation video about a guy who used it to help him lose weight, and thought maybe I could give it a shot.
I would LOVE some input!

No idea about how it helps people lose weight, but I have an app on my phone called Simply Yoga that I love. It gives you the choice of 20, 40, or 60 minute and it's for absolute beginners. It's free for the first version, then if you become more advanced and want more of a challenge you can buy the level 2 for about 99cents, which includes a lot more advanced and demanding poses.
Hope this helps!0 -
I have some DVD's from Diamond Dallas Page (the wrester). I know that it sounds wierd, but you should check out some of his youtube videos. just check out Transformations and DDP. It will knock your socks off!
The general idea is that it helps build your core. your working your muscles and getting your heart rate up. The way that I see it is, I only have fat to loose. lol
I bought the DVD's on e-bay for around $15 a piece. you can get them from his site, and they also have a pretty good comunity there too.
Just some ideas.
Good luck0 -

Actually it was a DDP transformation video (the disabled veteran paratrooper) that turned me onto yoga as an actual means of working out...never occurred to me to go to their site lol.0 -
Are there any yoga studios near where you live? I would strongly recommend going to some actual beginner classes. The teacher will really break down the poses for you and make sure you're in them correctly. Yoga is also about breathing and the teacher should help with that too. Once you have a foundation and know you're doing the poses correctly, then I'd suggest trying some videos.0

No there are not. I live in a town of 150 people, so I thought to try it at home. Even if there was a studio near me, I am extremely limited on time for the most part. This is not a "I don't have time to work out" statement, it's a "I need to fit in a work out whenever I can, and sometimes that will be late at night, or ridiculously early in the morning" statement.0
