I am getting a treadmill from my son for Christmas. I LOVE to walk but it is usually dark when I get home from work. I need to stay around $200 so the motorized kind is not an option unless I can find a used one. Are manual treadmills ok? I really don't have a lot of space either and the manual kind would be nice for that reason. Any thoughts?

I would recommend going to a store and trying a manual one before you buy one. I had one once and it was horrible. It was very difficult to move. Maybe look on craigslist for a motorized used one???? Good Luck!0

That's a good idea. When I looked into it on the internet, that was one of the downsides...hard to move.0

I had a manual and it sucked. Walmart and other department stores like that usually have a basic electric option for around $200. I think the one I have was around that and I got it from WalMart and it works great.0

Yeah, I had a manual treadmill and I HATED it... LIke, I gave it away I hated it so much because I'd have felt bad selling it to someone. You get more options for speed and incline on an electric model, and that will be my next purchase.0

Thanks everybody! Good information. I looked for a motorized version cheap at WalMart and I didn't see it. Will have to check it out.0

"the thing about treadmills is...." lol
i bought my treadmill (don't know if the brand is awesome or what) on facebook swapshop for $100. it works like a dream. it folds up and stands in my corner (takes up about as much space as a shelf).
people buy the darn things then (sometimes) need quick money and then it's time to sell their coat rack. i'm all about saving some money. hell, i got a badass weight machine on craigslist for free. the guy wanted it out of his garage, so my husband and i went and loaded it up. we've spent around $50 for plates and i use the darn thing all of the time.
trust me, with some patience, you CAN get a great gym together for a little money. (especially watch around income tax time!)0 -
Thanks! That sounds good. I got a total gym for free. I bought my exercise bike probably 7 years ago at Walmart and use it every single day.0

eBay is your friend.0

Yay! A co-worker just sold me a motorized one for $100. Only a year old.0

I honestly have never done a manual treadmill, so I can't weigh in on that. I think I prefer motorized anyways, because I am getting into running and it helps me keep at a constant pace.
I would recommend searching around eBay and Craigslist. I was lucky enough to snag a really fancy like-new one (that even folds up!) for $250. Turns out she's moving and didn't feel like having to deal with it.
Good luck in your search!0
