Bloating?

Looking for some input.....Started working out a week and a half ago. 3 days ago, I changed my diet (love carbs/sugary junk) to 1200 calories and started using Whey protein after workouts and drinking water (never drank water before). I feel so bloated and uncomfortable. Is this normal? Is it the Whey Protein? Is my body adjusting to the change? I gained 2 lbs in 2 days and my stomach feels so tight and pushed out.

Probably normal. I don't think water would do it unless you are drinking a boatload. But, a sudden increase in protein would cause bloating for sure.0

About how long until my body adjusts to the extra protein?0

How many grams r u getting each day...and how much were u getting before?0

Adjusting protein intake--more commonly an increase in protein consumption--will defiantly mess with your digestive system. Bloating is normal. Even irritable bowel movements and constipation is expected. When I first started weight training and working out I increased my protein via protein shakes and more fatty fish. To remedy the bloating and constipation I took Metamucil and tried to include more insoluble fibrous foods into my diet. Also, drinking lots and lots of water keeps everything moving. My sister had the same issue and also increased her dosage of magnesium supplements to help with her bowel movements. I am weary of taking things for laxative purposes so I suggest water and natural fibre!0

I wasn't logging before so I don't know how much protein I actually got but probably not much. I would eat meat for dinner and pretty much carb/sugar crap. Recently, it's been between 102-120 protein daily.
I was just thinking today to get some Metamucil. Thank you for mentioning this. I will pick some up and see if that helps that "end".0 -
This started happening to me a week or two ago. I realized I'm mildly intolerant to dairy (as are many Jews) so I stopped eating it. Try a vegan protein powder and see if that's any better.0

This has been a real issue with a friend of mine, even taking the protein powder is smaller doses causes bloating. There is less bloating on 1/2 servings but with the full amount he is in pain and bloating about 1 1/2 - 2 hrs later.
After Googling protein shake and bloating I find it is quite common with varying degrees and reason. My friend has finally ordered some Pea Protein and I was surprised that it is quite low in carbs.
Since you have made such a drastic change in your protein and diet maybe you could try slowly adding protein so your body can adjust.0 -
Thats a lot of protein if you are not used to it. Rather than using Metamucil, I would back off on the amount and build up gradually. Your body needs to adjust.0

Thank you for the replies. I am going to back off the protein powder right now since I am consuming alot of protein in my food.0
