I have to share my Thanksgiving experience...

even if nobody responds. But I hope you do!!

So I've been eating healthy and watching my calories since June of this year. I decided to take a "break" and enjoy Thanksgiving the way I did before I lost my 90 lbs. I took a whole week. I didn't go nuts necessarily but I did eat when I wanted and so forth. GOOD CRAP! It really taught me a lot. I felt sluggish and almost flu-like a lot of the time. I jumped back on the healthy band wagon last Saturday and still felt groggy until about Tuesday. Yesterday and today I have more energy than I know what to do with. I LOVE BEING HEALTHY.
If this is common knowledge to you healthy nuts out there then please forgive my rambling. But if you're new to all this...I hope sharing this has been helpful.
Please share some of your Thanksgiving experiences so I can learn from others as well. Yes, even those of you that just ate tofu or whatever.
Also, friend me if you think we can help each other. I do keep my friend list small because I like to be supported and supportive. If I go over about 30 it's way too hard to be supportive. Caution though....I'm VERY sarcastic so if you don't like those types of people don't friend me :-)

I've had two Thanksgiving dinners. One on Thanksgiving and one the following Sunday.

I ate whatever I wanted, but didn't get uncomfortable. I also didn't bother logging on those two days because two days a year don't matter in the long run and I'm too lazy to look up everything that I won't be eating again for a year.

Now I'm back to eating wisely.

I know what you mean! I sort of did the same thing, and by Sunday I was so sluggish I took a nap, which is something I never do! I was worried I was getting the flu, but after eatting healthy the last 4 days the difference is reallys something! Sometimes we just need something to show us what really works. Now, to get through Christmas, love those cookies!

Not sure I had a "point". I said I wanted to share and have others share. It's kinda motivating for me to know that each time I have a craving and if I give into that craving it's totally not worth it.

I'm still enjoying thanksgiving, though the leftovers are getting pretty scant. I love turkey and stuffing!

It took 4 days to get back to normal and I was very reasonable on Thanksgiving. A little over normal but nothing crazy. I finally had a normal BM Monday morning and finally felt able to workout hard again.

Lesson very clear. I will be cooking super healthy for Christmas.

I totally know what you mean. I have been keeping a really close eye on my sodium intake and have kept my levels very low. Then yesterday I bought some potato chips. WOW! I sure noticed the effect of the sodium nearly immediately. My legs noticeably began to swell, and I'm feeling very puffy and my skin feels really tight today.
They sure skewed my nutritional levels for the day as well! Good thing I'm headed back to regular gym sessions again tomorrow!

I can't say I won't have chips again, but I think it's single size bags if I do have them, and only on days when I have a fitness session scheduled!

I planned an approximate dinner and tried to stay close... only went about 50 calories over my goal and lost weight in spite of enjoying some pie and turkey by being proactive about my food intake.

I was shocked when thanksgiving dinner was over and I realized I still had food on the original plate I had grabbed and couldn't finish it.

This is great stuff. Thanks everyone. Good job lewcompton. That's impressive!! Hey, I'm still learning how all this works.
  • I did "okay" at Thanksgiving. I did eat a lot, but it was essentially my only meal that day. We did not host, so I didn't eat any leftovers. Woohoo! On Friday, the scale was exactly the same. Total win.

I will say, I was totally STUFFED and felt so gross after eating all that food. I forced myself to do some yoga (and practice SUCKED because my stomach was so full) but I'm so glad I did. It really helped with my digestion.

The weekend following Thanksgiving, however, was a different story. I slightly overindulged (Chinese food and wine) and was rewarded with a 1.5 scale gain on Monday. But thankfully it's already gone now.

Great job getting back on track!

I took 11 days off from logging and just ate what I wanted. I had a week in a filipino household (basically meat, starches and lots of oil...but tasty), Thanksgiving dinner and my birthday. I felt like crap. I broke down at one point and got my girlfriend to take me to the grocery store where I bought a bunch of fresh fruit & veggies. I've been back to logging and working out since Tuesday but still don't feel 100% normal.

Biggest revelation of Thanksgiving: I was stuffed after 1 small plate. In prior years, I'd have at least 2 large plates and then snack soon after.

I took the day off... ate what I wanted... and felt fine. No problems at all. No sluggishness. A bit tired but then again I HAD been cooking all day so I think that is normal!

And I didn't gain anything either.

    Not that hard.

My experience was very similar. I actually did okay on the day, but the next 3 were a constant grazing nightmare!!! I also felt horrible on Monday but got back onto the eating and exercise plan and now I feel fantastic! The choices we make really do make such a difference, don't they?

Good luck next month and on your life journey!

I think it's going to make Christmas a lot easier.
  • I also didn't limit my food choices on Thanksgiving. Can so relate to the sluggish feeling. I read a book and laid around most of the day Sunday. Made my veggie soup recipe to help fill me up. Helped to shed that bloated feeling. Now to just stay on track. My workout place is closing the end of Dec. If they don't get a buyer and the wt loss challenge at work ends on the 7th. Anyone have ideas on how to stay on track over the holidays. We have a new challenge coming up in Jan. only problem is the working out. The place I go now has great hours and is close to home. Ideas????????????

I'm the same. When I have been doing good for a while and then I eat something bad for me or eat a ton or skip a workout I feel like *kitten*!

I have a lot of weight to lose, and feel like I'm finally on a roll, so I was afraid of getting off track. So for dinner I did not have seconds of anything, and did not feel deprived. That was new for me and really great. Thanksgiving morning I did my first 5K! I mostly walked it....but it felt great to accomplish something, including getting my metabolism going. I ended up losing 1.6 pounds Thanksgiving week :)

Not just for Thanksgiving, I've just learned in general when I break from the healthy eating I feel like poop, AND I don't poop.

    Both are not great feelings.
