These are the only reasonable ones, lol.0 -
I've seen this before. A lot of them are great, and I think would be especially helpful for someone who is beginning a healthier lifestyle/weightloss and needs some starting info. That being said, I think it's necessary to adjust depending on what your goal is and what your activity level is like. For example, I weight lift (heavy) and while I'd like to lose some body fat, I'm also trying to gain strength and NOT lose any of my lean muscle mass. Therefore, I try to eat about 135g of protein a day, and having a meatless day made it almost impossible to hit my protein goal on that day. I also don't entirely agree with no carbs after lunch. Should you eat a bowl full of sugar right before bed? Probably not. But I eat veggies (carbs) with dinner almost every night, and would have trouble reaching the fiber goal of 30-50g per day if I DIDN'T eat any carbs after lunch.0

Not this again!
I'll quote myself from the last time this was posted 6 weeks ago.....I found a pin of Bob Harper’s 20 “skinny rules.”

What a load of crap!
Go for it OP!
Enjoy not eating carbs after lunch.....
To lose weight its simple!
Eat at a slight deficit from TDEE.
Lift weights 2-4x a week.
Walk.
PS most of my weight was lost eating a bowl of cereal in bed every night (2-3 cups worth).0 -
Lol only need to follow one rule to lose weight... burn more than you consume.0
-
Some of these are reasonable. . . the others are just myths or some weirdly arbitrary number. I don't drink water before every meal; I eat fruit every day but not necessarily apples or berries; I could never get in enough vegetables if I didn't eat carbs after lunch (and there is no scientific reason for that anyway). I never let myself get hungry. Why would I want to go to bed hungry?0
-
I read the book and thought some of the rules made sense. I really have a hard time trying to figure out what you would eat if you are not eating carbs at that point in the day. I mean what does dinner look like? Some of the other rules I have been using. The apples everyday and lots and lots of water!0
-
Rule 8: Learn to read food labels so you know what you are eating
Rule 9: Stop guessing about portion size and get it right - for good
Rule 19: Sleep right

Maybe these three.0 -
no carbs after lunch? wow ... not happening over here!0
-
Skinny rule 1: eat at a calorie deficit...the end.0
-
Sorry no meal is complete without a potato0

Some of these are decent advice - drinking lots of water, eating more protein. But some of them sound ridiculous for the sake of being ridiculous. And also this reads like a semi-crazed manifesto. If you want to drive yourself nuts go ahead, but sometimes taking the uncomplicated approach is better and also makes you stick to it for longer. Just saying.0

Here's a good rule:
LEARN HOW TO BE HAPPY WITH YOURSELF AND NOT PSYCHOTIC ABOUT HOW YOU CONSUME FOOD!!!
Seriously, everyone is different and there are no "rules" to dieting. You make healthy choices. You watch your portion size. You are aware of what goes in your mouth. And you exercise a few times a week. Done and done.
A lot of what you said is fairly unhealthy and obsessive. Let's try to be sane about our eating habits, shall we? And not encourage disordered eating? Yes? Awesome!0 -
I know a body builder who swears by rule #7 (he won the Arnold Classic so I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing)
I just can't seem to ever get that one right though.
The rest of them are not fun but fairly easy to do (most of the time).....I love fast food though. I'm limiting it to only once a week though.0 -

That's a big NONO in my house lol. NO food is ever allowed in the bedroom.0 -
I don't like going to bed hungry.
Yes, going to bed hungry is a one way ticket to binge town for me. I always save some calories for a bed time snack. Otherwise I get up at midnight and eat the house.0 -
I think a lot of these rules apply to people with a lot of weight to lose, and who are trying to stay on a low calorie diet. That being said.....
Rule 1: Drink a large glass of water before each meal - NO excuses
Definitely NOT for me. I like to enjoy my meals.
Rule 2: Don't drink your calories.
AMEN.
Rule 3: Eat protein at every meal - or stay hungry and grouchy
In order to get my protein grams in, this is pretty standard for me. But not doing it does not keep me grouchy.
Rule 4: Slash your intake of flour and grains
I don't feel very good when I eat wheat, but I think that's just me. These are higher in calories though.
Rule 5: Eat 30 to 50 grams of fiber a day
I do my best to keep fiber grams as high as possible. 50 is a lot.
Rule 6: Eat apples and berries every single day
This is yummy and takes the place of sweet treats for me. I always go to work with an apple to snack on, because someone is going to bring cookies and I will want one....
Rule 7: No carbs after lunch
Maybe he means no refined carbs. I eat carbs when I want to, regardless of the time of day, and I am most apt to eat them with my dinner.
Rule 8: Learn to read food labels so you know what you are eating
AMEN.
Rule 9: Stop guessing about portion size and get it right - for good
I weigh and measure everything, or at least every couple of months to make sure my eyeballed portions haven't grown, which usually they have.
Rule 10: No more added sweeteners, including artificial ones
I don't use artificial sweeteners. If I am having coffee, I use sugar.
Rule 11: Get rid of those white potatoes
Meh... I like sweet potatoes better. But I still eat white potatoes sometimes, just not very often.
Rule 12: Make one day a week meatless
Oh, I don't know. It happens sometimes.
Rule 13: Get rid of fast food and fried foods.
Amen.
Rule 14: Eat a real breakfast
I feel better when I eat breakfast first thing, and definitely before I go to the gym. But I also skip breakfast at least once a week.
Rule 15: Make your own food and eat at least 10 meals at home/week
Yes. I want to know how my food is made and what is in it.
Rule 16: Banish high salt foods
Makes sense.
Rule 17: Eat your veggies - just do it!
I love love love my veggies.
Rule 18: Go to bed hungry
Only if I am hungering for some ridiculous sugary sweet treat. But I eat dinner or a snack about an hour before bed every night.
Rule 19: Sleep right
Sleep is really important.
Rule 20: Plan one splurge meal a week.
Only if I need it for emotional support.0 -
I won't eat after I clean the kitchen. It's 'closed' as far as I'm concerned, once I go upstairs, I don't come down until morning. I've got my bottled water and that's it.0

Rule 18 makes rule 19 impossible.

I pretty much ignore most of these rules and I'm in the best shape of my life.....the only rules I follow: Eat less calories or equal what my body burns per day, move more, lift heavy.0
