To the Weight Lifting Ladies...

I've been reading about NRLO4W and have lifted before, but not consistently. Can you ladies give me some advice on what you do and what you think? I've been reading this article: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/womans_lean_sexy_bible.htm and would like some feedback on what you all think the validity of it is. Should I listen to it or is it a bunch of bull? I'm 5'2" and really want to tone up my body. weight loss is nice, but i wont get into smaller sizes until i start toning and building muscle. i appreciate any input! and feel free to add me as a friend too! I'm new to MFP

From what I've seen, anything from Bodybuilding.com can be taking as valid. I've read that article before, actually before I started the NROLFW program and it opened my eyes. I would completely recommend the program 100% if you want to start changing your body. Cardio can only do so much, lifting will get you to that extra step. I absolutely love lifting and I haven't looked back since I started.

It's a great article. I love lifting. I don't lose much in lbs, but I'm definitely shrinking, not bulking. And I get to eat 1800-2000 cals/day because of my muscles.

I highly recommend starting a lifting program.

I eat lots, and lift lots, and am always happy with how things are going. I lift 3 days a week, and will occasionally throw a stand-alone cardio day in (but sometimes i just lift faster for cardio).
Read up on anything Jamie Eason has written as well. She is great inspiration.

I haven't read the article in full yet but I can tell you that all I know is I weigh 2 measly pounds less than I did before I gained my moving abroad pounds and yet I'm not only a full size smaller, I'm almost ready for the next size!!! (I'm already able to button/zip the next size). I fully believe all of that is due to body recomposition. Lifting works! I can tell you though that it isn't an overnight thing. It takes some patience but when it goes, it's an improvement over what I would (and previously did) accomplish with just diet.

It's a good article. I had lost around 20 pounds when already when I started NROL4W, but it wasn't until a couple weeks into lifting that anyone noticed I lost "weight".

I like New Rules, but If you want something more simple to start with I suggest Starting Strength or Stronglifts first....then New Rules.

    You wont regret it.

We're all different. I started NROL4W in March. I had about 15 lbs to lose and my thighs were 26"!!! Waaaaaaaay too big. Anyways, I did see good body improvements but by August I wasn't where I wanted to be weight-loss wise. I had a vacation coming up in October and wanted to look as good as possible to I switched to Insanity and as far as getting smaller, it's been WAY better. It's not just cardio like running or doing the elliptical. It's body weight strength training so I'm still getting decently ripped (for those who have done NROL4W, it's basically like doing the body weight matrix for an hour with a few 30 second breaks!). I've already completed Insanity once and I'm not quite halfway with the second round (I wanted something super intense to bring me through the holidays) and when I finish, I plan on doing NROL4W again, but twice a week instead of 3 times a week with 2-3 Insanity workouts a week.

The author of NROL4W even says it is not a fat loss program but NROL4abs IS designed for fat loss (it's not just abs. He believes full body lifts make abs).

To follow up - Lift as heavy as you can until you can't lift it any more! Don't use girly light weights. Seriously, you can do it! You muscles are just dying to be used, and to be lean. That's what we are designed to do.

The Jamie Eason LiveFit - http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/jamie-eason-livefit-trainer.html
Read through what she has to say - she doesn't look 'bulky' or masculine. Don't forget, you need to have an incredibly LOW BF% to look ripped. :)

And peruse through the LeanGains website. The guy has a TON of incredible information, all very well researched and most are in laments terms :)

Feel free to message me if you have any questions! I will do my best to try and help you on your journey :)
