To lose weight its simple!
Eat at a slight deficit from TDEE.
Lift weights 2-4x a week.
Walk.
PS most of my weight was lost eating a bowl of cereal in bed every night (2-3 cups worth).
That's a big NONO in my house lol. NO food is ever allowed in the bedroom.
You wont stick a strawberry in your hubbys belly button then cover him with whip cream?!
What is wrong with you!?0 -

Found on Pinterest. "The Skinny Rules" - Bob Harper. Thoughts on these rules? Can/would you follow a few/all of them??
Generally, this is a good list, with notable exceptions.
If I follow Rule 7 (and I generally do), it's next to impossible to follow Rule 5 or Rule 17, which I don't think matters much because if you do a simple correlation study I guarantee you that fiber isn't even inversely correlated with weight or body fat %, and where veggies are concerned, I can get exponentially more essential micronutrients from a GMP certified multivitamin anyway. Plus, a simple teaspoon of cinnamon has 20 times the proanthocyanadins of any vegetable.
If I follow Rule 7, I don't have to go to bed hungry, because the fat and protein will keep me full since I won't have insulin spikes all day long, thereby also allowing me to follow Rule 19 -- sleeping right.
If I follow Rule 7, though, I have to ignore Rule 16 because I'll urinate out all of my sodium, causing me to waste potassium and, therefore, lose muscle. Therefore, I'll need to increase my sodium -- considerably -- which is okay and necessary since I'm low carbing under Rule 7. Plus, if I don't up my sodium when following Rule 7, I'll get crazy headaches which will never allow me to adhere to Rule 19.
As for Rule 12, why on earth would anyone avoid "meat" unless they still believe in the absurd lipid hypothesis and don't like complete amino acid profiles? What's more, it would muck up Rules No. 3, 7, 14, and 19.0 -
WAAAAAY too many unreasonable rules....impossible to stick to this daily, not a realistic lifestyle change0

I love my bowl of cereal with almond milk before bed...i dont wake up starving0 -
Yeah, no.
I went from 320 pounds to 155 pounds. A size 26 to a size 8. That is 165 pounds gone.
And guess what?
I broke a lot, if not all, of those rules.0 -
Yeah, no.

I went from 220 to 120, now back up. I use a few of the rules now though. I sleep better when I'm not full (not hungry), but not full.0 -
*facepalm
There's so much wrong with that I don't even know where to start.
It all boils down to two simple rules, not to being skinny ( hate that word) but to being healthy and in shape.
1. Lift Heavy
2. EAT0 -
My new rules that I'm not following yet are: run 2 to 3 times per day and eat more ice cream (for a calcium boost)0

Here's a good rule:
LEARN HOW TO BE HAPPY WITH YOURSELF AND NOT PSYCHOTIC ABOUT HOW YOU CONSUME FOOD!!!
Seriously, everyone is different and there are no "rules" to dieting. You make healthy choices. You watch your portion size. You are aware of what goes in your mouth. And you exercise a few times a week. Done and done.
A lot of what you said is fairly unhealthy and obsessive. Let's try to be sane about our eating habits, shall we? And not encourage disordered eating? Yes? Awesome!

But...my after lunch carbs are my favourite. Ooh, except for my after-afternoon tea carbs. Wait, no, I've got it this time! My after-dinner carbs!
This is likely why am not skinny, but my aim is to live a happier life *not* a carb-free, hungry life.0 -
Uh.
*pages Scott*
Scott, come in Scott. You're needed.0 -
The OP clearly stated she found this, and wanted opinions. I am not sure why some seem to be mocking her. You either agree or not. But don't attack.0
-
I agree about the parts teng you to up your fruit and veg intake and sleep well and generally treat your body with respect and love. But going to bed hungry makes me a sad panda.
Also, if I want to lift heavy I have to eat carbs. So, can we just agree that these rules are open to interpretation and should only be used as a guide?
Also, this cake I am consuming in my profile, you should eat one a day for optimum weight loss.0 -
SO, you didn't get banned from the forums earlier?0

Rule 1: Drink a large glass of water before each meal - NO excuses
I do this. I drink a lot of water.Rule 2: Don't drink your calories.
Black coffee, unsweetened ice tea, and water are my drinks of choiceRule 3: Eat protein at every meal - or stay hungry and grouchy
Yep, I love me some protein.Rule 4: Slash your intake of flour and grains
Rule 5: Eat 30 to 50 grams of fiber a day
Rule 6: Eat apples and berries every single day
Rule 7: No carbs after lunch
Those 4 rules all contradict each other.
Rule 8: Learn to read food labels so you know what you are eating
Rule 9: Stop guessing about portion size and get it right - for good
Rule 10: No more added sweeteners, including artificial ones
Common sense here
Rule 11: Get rid of those white potatoes
Rule 12: Make one day a week meatless
Rule 13: Get rid of fast food and fried foods.
Everything in moderation, including white potatoes, fast food, and fried foods.
Rule 14: Eat a real breakfast
Rule 15: Make your own food and eat at least 10 meals at home/week
Rule 16: Banish high salt foods
Rule 17: Eat your veggies - just do it!
Duh.Rule 18: Go to bed hungry
Rule 19: Sleep right
I go to bed satisfied. Not full, but satisfied so I can sleep well.
Rule 20: Plan one splurge meal a week.
If you feel like you must "splurge" once a week, you're being way too restrictive.0 -

Skinny rule #1:
Eat less than your TDEE
Fat Rule #1:
Eat more than your TDEE0 -
Most of those 'rules' aren't required to lose weight or remain skinny. I break most of those rules and have no issue cutting or maintaining.0
-
Rule 8: Learn to read food labels so you know what you are eating
Rule 9: Stop guessing about portion size and get it right - for good
Rule 17: Eat your veggies - just do it!
Rule 19: Sleep right
These are the only reasonable ones, lol.
Fixed it for you.0 -

Awww....
To be fair, bob probably didn't have much to do with it. More like a formulaic book the publishers crunched out and signed bob on to sell and take a picture for the cover.0 -

I own the book. I have read it several times. To be fair, it has wonderful advice in it. WHen I find myself getting sloppy, I revisit it.0
