Make sure to have a protein at every meal with your carbohydrate. I do have some hypoglycemic episodes at times, but I am on meds for my diabetes. The doctor decreased my medication and I haven't had any problems since.
  • When I had gestational diabetes with both my pregnancies, small evenly spaced meals with protein included in each did the trick for me. I never went more than three hours without a meal and they were all relatively evenly sized to prevent spikes and dips. Five years later, I have dropped nearly 40 pounds eating that way again, so clearly it works for my body. Also, I have to work out with something light in my stomach. Otherwise, I will bottom out in a heartbeat. Good luck! I know how horrible that can feel!

i have reactive hypogylcemia....meaning that if i eat too much carbs without enough protein my blood sugars spike high and then i crash and have the low blood sugars. i have found that certain foods will always do this to me. For instance, i can not eat oatmeal. I have tried over and over again because everyone raves about how great it is for you in the morning. But even with a snack i still will crash. Certain granola type bars also have the same effect on me. i was diagnosised about 7 years ago. At first i was so obsessed with what i ate. Now that i now the foods that cause the reaction, i can eat more regular meals. So besides eating higher protein and frequent meals, monitor the foods you are eating and see if it the specific food that causes it.
