Newly Engaged Wedding Dieter

Hi I'm Courtney and I am 25 years old. I live with my fiance in Columbus, Ohio. I'm about 15 lbs overweight, and would like to lose 30 lbs for my wedding. Thankfully, the big day is not until May 2011. I'm not planning on ordering my dress until September/October of this year.
I've been having a really difficult time getting motivated to shed a few lbs. The more I think about needing to lose weight for wedding dress shopping the more I want a bag of Cheetos.
I'd love to get advice from recent brides about how they managed to live a healthy lifestyle (No wedding crash diet for me!) while planning a wedding. Advice on what NOT to do would be welcome too. :flowerforyou:

Just a question/concern. If you are 15 lbs overweight, why do you want to lose 30 lbs? I'm newly married and I love it, btw!0

I'm newly engaged (december 09) and the thought of wedding dress shopping got me back on the weightloss journey. i had lost 30 lbs 2 years ago and put it all back on plus some, so i have about 70 lbs to loose. we are not planning on getting married until fall of 2012, but i will not even go to look at wedding dresses until i have reached my goal - and i'm so excited about wedding dress shopping, so that's been keeping me motivated. everytime i don't want to go to the gym i think about shopping and i get myself going. can you get a workout buddy to help keep you on track? have you done any wedding planning? maybe you can create a schedule for yourself where for every hour of wedding planning you do in one day you have to do 15 minutes of excercise?0

I'm getting married next month. I was a few pounds overweight but wanted to lose 25 lbs before the wedding and I did in record time on MFP!!!
MFP will help you accomplish that goal and help you maintain!

Hi Courtney - I am getting married on May 8, 2010. I have lost 15lbs in the last 4 months and have about 5 more lbs to go. My advice to getting motivated - have a dress picked out and now what size you want to be in. I ordered my dress back in September a size smaller than recommended. I than put a picture of myself how I looked than on the fridge to remind me of what I am trying to change. I have since tried on my dress and its actually too big. I could have gone down another size. How I did it was by tracking everything I ate - you will realize how much you are overeating.... plus I have a membership at the YMCA - another big motivation was completing a Y Power X class (the YMCA's verison of P90X). I have since completed 3 and am on my 4th class. Being able to hear from people how great I look and better yet - I feel great. Hope this helps!
PS... don't get frustrated. You will have your off days... I give myself one night out to eat that I don't track... and if I don't make it to the gym 4/5 days a week its not a big deal - I don't get to hard on myself...
Good Luck!0 -
I am engaged and getting married in June. I have focused on losing weight the healhy way, slow and steady. I work out 5 days a week and use MFP. The stress of wedding planning can make you want to eat, if that is your coping mechanism. Working out will help that a lot! Helps control stress! My advice is to shoot for 15 lbs loss, then when you hit that do mini 5 lb goals. Be realistic. Putting the stress on yourself to lose 30 lbs will not help your emotional state, especially when the last 10 will come off way tooo slowly. Either way, any weight loss is better than none. Remember also that you don't want to gain the weight back after the wedding, so losing it slowly is better. My other peice of advice is to splurge every once and a while. Sounds crazy, but when I am stuck in a plataeu I splurge, then go straight back to my plan, and I end up losing weight the next week. Good luck!0

Just a question/concern. If you are 15 lbs overweight, why do you want to lose 30 lbs? I'm newly married and I love it, btw!
That's what I was thinking as well.
There's is a healthy BMI range. If I lost 15 lbs I would be at the very highest "normal" weight. If I lost 30 lbs, I'd be towards to lower end of "normal" weight. I'd have to lose a little over 40 lbs to be considered "under weight."
I appreciate your concern :0 -
Not sure if it helps you, but I'm such a visual person that seeing the dress I want to be in hanging on the wall in front of the treadmill helped me pushed harder.
My wedding is May 8, 2010! Almost here!0 -
I'm getting married October 7 2010 in the Outer Banks NC! And when I tried on my dress all I saw was fat. That was my instant motivation. I have been logging everything and excercising 5 days a week! Find something that motivates you. Find a picture of a dress you love and hang it in your mirror in the bathroom. So everyday you wake up you see it and want to get healthy to wear it. Good Luck!!0
