Polar HRM vs Timex HRM

OK so i want to buy a HRM watch but I'm debating whether to get a Polar or Timex. Can you give me some of your reviews/experiences and also what model you own? Thanks!!
I will be using it mostly at the gym(elliptical, treadmill, weight training), Zumba, Yoga, and eventually some swimming. I really like the Polar ones (FT7, F7, F6, FT60). Do all Polars come with chest straps?
Primarily my goal is to loose weight so i want it to keep track of how much I'm burning, i don't trust the monitors on the exercise machines that much.
Thanks for your help:flowerforyou:

Have you looked at reviews for each one on amazon.com?
That is how I decided to finally buy a Polar F6...Polars seem to get the best consistent reviews of any of the HRMs..
Do a search for both and see how people are rating them.0 -
I have an FT7 and love it. Definitely get one that has a chest strap - they're far more accurate and you can use them without thinking (no silly remembering to touch the sensors so it can sample you or anything).
They're waterproof, too...I also wear mine while swimming. Fun toys.0 -
I have a Polar F6 and I love it! I've done tons of research on the subject and Polar is the way to go.0

I have a Timex and my wife uses a Polar. We like them both. The only downside to the Polar that we've experienced is that the battery in the chest strap has to be replaced by Polar, which means you have to mail it to them. That said, the battery can last 2-3 years, so it's not a huge deal.0

I have the Polar FT60 with GPS. I use it mostly for running and biking. This one is coded so you don't have to worry about signals getting mixed in a gym with other HRM, the chest strap is comfortable and is machine washable, and I found it accurate enough to loose my weight. It has a built in coaching program that helps you plan your workouts around how much time you should spend in each HR zone. It also has a feature called OwnZone that judges your heart rate before exercise to see how cardio tired you are.
The GPS distances match almost exactly what I get from Google Earth, track and field website and Mapmyrun.com.
Edit: With the FT 60 you can change out the bateries yourself for all componets. After 1 year I have only had to replace the battery in the GPS unit.0 -
Ok so i will keep doing my research and will most likely go with a polar. All the reviews are mostly good and a few bad, some watches need to be mailed in to change battery..that could be annoying. SO many choices ahh!0
