Day 1 and I'm Nervous

Today is my first day using the website as a guide to my weight loss. I am very nervous because I am still not completely confident in myself that I can lose the weight I wish to. I hope this website will give me the support and strength I need to become healthy again. I am very new to diet and exercise so I hope everything goes okay!
But any ways, I was wondering if you guys had any tips on exercise ideas from home? The house I live in now doesn't have much room to do things outside and I don't really have a neighbor-hood to work with either. I don't have any weights or anything like that so I'm having a hard time coming up with a routine to burn calories.
Any ideas will be GREATLY appreciated!

Yoga for Weightloss.
You can get great DVDs to help with that.0 -
First of all, congrats on your first step to a healthier lifestyle. You can do anything you put your mind too. Set your goals and stay focused on them. The key is to eat right and to exercise. You can find free workout videos online (try Prevention.com or RealAge.com). Also, there are tons of workout DVDs you can buy. There are countless ways to get a workout in. You don't even need weights. Check out the community forum for additional info. Good luck! Add me as a friend if you would like some support, motivation, and accountability.0

Hello ashleemegan and welcome
I just joined today as well and yes after the first euphoria i have this little nagging voice in the back of my head wondering if can really do this, but i've heard that there is always a great support and help here which surely will help though the hard times
I have the same problem with not going out and having not much room. What i found is chair-aerobic. You can find videos about that on youtube. It's also great because the back isn't that burdened when standing and it really goes into the legs. It is lots of fun and great to start with. (I typed chair-aerobic into google video search and got a pretty long list, just browse through there is some nice stuff among them)0 -
walk daily and drink plenty of water:)0

It's my first day also so I'm a little nervous too! I find you don't need to have weights or workout DVDs. You can get a good workout from just simple everyday chores such as vacuuming. If you want to start off on smaller weight lifting type exercise try lifting tins of beans or soup and then maybe packets of sugar? I find when I'm having a bit of an energy slump I go for a brisk walk and it tends to wake me up and give me a little boost. Hope this helps and good luck0

You can do this!! I am on my fourth week of MFP and I love this site! I've lost 7 lbs so far. It's very encouraging and helps me keep a check on what I'm eating...because I was WAY overeating before! Keep it up and stay positive!0

I was nervous when I first started too. I had almost 45 pounds to lose, and that seemed like a lot to me. I was ready to just give up and start getting bigger because I felt like I couldn't do anything about it anyway. But, this site really is amazing. You have to really commit to it and log your food and exercise though. The support here is amazing. If you would like to friend me I will give you encouragement on your journey.
Working out at home is difficult. I know that I use my Wii Active alot, so if you have a Wii I would definitely suggest picking up one of those games. I have an elliptical at home now, but when I didn't I would walk up and down the stairs to my condo for 30 minutes. You could find some stairs and just walk up and down then. Go to a park and walk if your neighborhood isn't safe to walk in. I purchased some pilates and yoga videos for really cheap that do a really great job. I am about to purchase my first one that is a bit more expensive (ChaLean Extreme), but videos are always a good start. Stretch, drink a lot of water, and do situps and pushups. Building muscle will also help you to burn fat, so do what you can with what you have. If you want to lift weights, fill up two milk jugs with water, and use those as weight. Or you can lift canned veggies as you work your muscles. There are tons of ways to do it. Good Luck!0 -
Welcome to everyone new in the thread! I've been around awhile and I LOVE it! There are many who've been around much longer than me, as well, and know more. Everyone is always so willing to share and help! We're here if anyone needs a buddy, or some butt kicking! (er i mean encouragement!) haha really. kind words go a long way, and there are many here!
Welcome. Good luck!:flowerforyou:0 -
Welcome Ladies:flowerforyou:
There is not much to be nervous about, we are all in the same boat together and we all started here sometime.:drinker:
The important thing is to read the flagged notes, eat as healthy ( least processed food) as possible and move your body. I do some Dvd"s (check your library) and if the weater is nice we go to a track at the local school to walk. I also do garden work and maybe you could go walking through you local mall in the off time? For weights you might be able to use cans, I have been known to do some reps with a 2 pound can of tomatoes..... The important stuff is take one day at a time, if you fall off the wagon, get back on as fast as possible and have fun while youre at it. There are some great threads on here that are funny and informative and compassionate. So here is to success:laugh:0 -
I love to put on my favorite music and dance like no ones watching. I also love to walk, on the street, at the park, at the mall, wherever. Welcome and good luck. Feel free to add me as a friend too.0

Check out your library for exercise DVDs! Walk, go up and down the stairs. Get some weights or resistance band for resistance/strength training. Just keep moving...
You can do it!

Wow,,, lookit all these noobs!
Indoor exercise? 3 words, Thirty Day Shred. It rocks, I'm gonna do it again. ((Jillian Michaels 30 minute circuit training DVD, $9 at walmart, Quick-effective-fun)).
Here's my standard "welcome aboard" post. Describes what has worked for us:
welcome aboard! You can do this,,, just choose to do it, and do it.
This is easy - here's all ya' gotta do:
Cook smart, lotsa good filling stuff. Some fruits, lotsa veggies, some grains-cereals, some starchy stuff, some lean meat. Almost nothing fried (and certainly nothing batter dipped & deep fried), and very very little pastry/cakey stuff.
Count your calories accurately with the food guide here, and stay as close to your calorie allowance as you reasonably can. If you cook properly you shouldn't be too uncomfortable on the calorie allowance MFP will give you.
Get some exercise - work that gym, walk a little every day, something - that's a huge help. Remember to log your exercise and eat at least some (I eat most) of your exercise calories. Exercise is a self-feeding phenomenon. If you push yourself to do just a little today (it's supposed to be hard,,, it's exercise ) then you'll feel better about it and it'll be easier to do it again tomorrow. Then in a week you'll be able to do more, and it'll start to get fun. In a year you might be running 10k's,,, it's up to you.
And drink your water!
That's it, piece o' cake. Wife and I have been doing it for about a year now and we've done well. Lost about 130 pounds between us, and we're in much better shape. You can do it too.

Hi there! I am new here too. Congratulations on your decision to get healthier. I am a stay at hom mom so I know all about having to workout at home. Exercise Dvds have helped me a lot in the past and I plan on utilizing them again this time. As for weight training, maybe you could lift the cans of veggies like someone else suggested or water bottles. Maybe you could try some squats or wall push-ups, crunches and arm curls with the weights. Every little bit helps. I am by no means an expert but I would love to encourage you. YOU CAN DO THIS!0

Welcome! I work out at home myself and do several things. I like t jog in place a lot. I also follow the EA Sports Active and Wii Fit Plus to do strength training, yoga, and cardio. If you're able to, you can get a jump rope and some hand weights to start with. Workout DVD's are another way to work out at home. If you have a park you like to go to, you can go running there. If you have stairs, you can run up and down the stairs too. Hope you reach your goals. You can do it!0
