Question For My Fellow Ladies Regarding Menstrual Cycle

My whole life I almost never had a period (once every 6-12 months) until I got on birth control to help flush out my ovarian cysts, then I started getting it monthly. However, I have found, the last few months I have had two cycles a month only a week apart... what the heck is going on? Is this because of the weight loss?

I'm no doctor so this could be wrong, but my friend who was on the pill (she's a swimmer and took it so she wouldn't get her period during races) would skip a period, then for what she skipped, her body would make up for by giving her 2 periods in one month. I don' t think it is because of your weight loss, most likely the skin in your uterus has been ready to fall out but hasn't been able to until now, so it's all hitting you in one massive crimson wave :P0

It's not skin "falling out", it's fluid.
If you have never been regular you could be spotting which can look like a light period. It could be from the artificial hormones in the BCPs or your body's reaction to them. Regardless this is something you need to discuss with your OB or the Dr who Rx'ed the medications.0 -
It might actually be because of the weight loss, depending on how much you've lost recently. I know every time I have a large drop in weight (5-10lbs in a month), my cycles get a little wonky, even on the pill (I take mine for the same reason you do). Generally, I switch to maintaining my weight at that point, and allow my body to figure out what it wants to do.
My gyno didn't seem especially concerned by it when I asked him about it during my last visit, but if you're worried, I'd ask your physician the next time you see them.0 -
Talk to your ob-gyn. Breakthrough bleeding is a typical side effect of the Pill. You may need to tweak the hormone dosage.
I was on the Pill from 1987-2003. For the first nine months I was bleeding for three weeks out of every month until we figured out the right dosage. Years later I experienced breakthrough bleeding every so often.
Your cysts could also be part of the cause. My partner had very heavy periods due to cysts, fibroids, and endometriosis. Either way, I would let your doctor know what's been happening.0 -
Thanks all of you for your responses, I will of course bring it up the next time I see my doctor, I am not especially concerned, but more curious if anything... it gets rather annoying to me and the husband as well. I will see if dosage needs to be tweeked, though I though my losing about 30 pound the past 4 months might have effected it too.0
