Question for college peepz!!!

Do you take notes with a laptop, tablet, or pen and paper?

I'm 22 and I haven't been in a classroom for about 5 years. I plan on attending college next year, so I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to need.

Also any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!!!

I took most of my notes in my head...

I had to, because I sure couldn't read my writing...

I'd go with a laptop or tablet if I had it to do over.

I am a professor -- take the notes by hand ("writing is reading twice"), read your assignments before class, and use the syllabus! Good luck with your studies.

It depends on the class. I usually use a notebook for math, science, and econ classes because they involve graphs and charts. For social science classes, laptops are great if you don't get distracted by the internet.

And then there's always those classes where the professor just reads off the power point slides, in which case I don't even go to class; I just read them before the test. Sounds lazy, but honestly I have more work than I can handle, so I just call it prioritizing and time management.

Agreed 100%. I type faster than I can write, and it's much neater that way. Unless it's something I need to draw graphs or use math for, I tend to go with laptop. And yeah. Funny, isn't it, that we pay hundreds of dollars to hear professors read straight from the textbook?

    Undergrads...smh.

professors have more important things to do than teach peons too. Classes take away from the endeavors that actually pay the bills...
  • Thanks for all your input! I guess I'll start with a tablet and some notebooks and see how that goes. I was wondering if people used backpacks often.... but I think I'll just get a big tote.
  • I take short hand notes on paper. Then, I read the chapter and take better notes. Keep in mind-- if a professor repeats a certain topic in his/her lecture it will prob be on the quiz/exam, so def write it down.

oh, and on the backpack thing... my first semester I used one. But, I don't anymore. If you have classes back to back, then you might want a tote. :)

You remember better if you actually write it down with pen and paper.
