Eating below 1000 calories

Waiting to see a specialist from the Gastroenterology unit on the 15.01.13. I have an undiagnosed stomach condition (I currently think it may be Gastroparesis after being on meds for a few different things inc an ulcer, IBS, acid reflux), and mainly consuming liquids seems to be the only thing that helps longer term.

Only problem is that a mainly liquid diet is low in calories unless I drink full fat coke, milkshake and hot chocolate every day, which is obv soaring my sugar levels through the roof and makes my teeth feel dirty!

Is eating 700-1000 calories a day for 6 weeks going to do me much harm? I have been recovered from a 12 year long eating disorder for over 2 years now, but I'm worried about how much I've f*cked my body around. That could actually be the cause for this problem.

I lived mainly off liquids for a couple of weeks, then as soon as I've started eating solids again (not even for every meal!), I have the same problem. My problems are mainly pain/discomfort, feeling sick, occasionally being sick, burping all the time, having chest stabbing pains, feeling my stomach 'throb', feeling full and not being hungry.

Anyone have any wisdom? Feeling so ****ty, and I miss food! But my stomach just doesn't like food very much. I can manage a small 'normal' meal in the evenings possibly. :explode:

You should probably talk to your doctor about this and explain your history with ED when you do.

I did. He was like "okay". :noway:

It's taken me 3 years to get to a hospital, and that's only after being fed with drugs for all sorts! I had to basically kick off for them to do anything.

I'm sorry you're going through this. It sounds horrible!

I agree. And find out what foods are most likely to sit well for you. What about protein shakes? Good way to add calories and nutrition. Maybe mashed potatoes?

Edited to add: Saw you reply... Become the Squeaky Wheel. Nag the doctor until you get the answers you need.

I don't really want to go back to them to be honest. It also took them years to diagnose that I was allergic to dust mites and I couldn't breathe through my nose. I plan to make a complaint once this is all over.

I'm not so worried about the mental aspect as such, but I did get excited when I saw the weight literally dropping off. I'm just worried about what it will do to my insides O.O

Long term deprivation is bad... how about for 6 weeks?

I'm going to add in protein shakes - good idea! I can manage a bit of veg and gravy as well

I'm on 600-800 calories a day and have been for about 3 mnths, burn I have a lot too loose. I see a dietician regularly and she makes sure I'm staying healthy. If your bing properly supervised it "should" be ok, but someone needs to be checking up on you

I would do meal replacement drinks, like Ensure. They have ones with extra calories and ones with extra protein. You can also try cream soups for something a little more savory. I have crohns disease and when I get sick I eat a low residue diet. Try that and see how you feel.

What about seeing a dietician? Can you tolerate healthy nutrient dense additions to fruit smoothies like nut flours or ground seeds or creamed coconut?

Do a search for Unjury brand protein powders... I've heard they come in a better variety of flavors (like chicken soup) than most. I know when I had my jaw problem and couldn't eat normally, I was sooooo frickin' sick of sweet and fruity flavored shakes. It took a long long time before I could even consider having a shake again.
