Need an opinion

So I need some opinions. My company does a fitness challenge at the start of each you. I am just shy of the cut off. Long story short I did it last year so I must be no more the 10% less then my finish weight last year. So I would need to gain almost 10 lbs my January to be able to keep losing weight to win an iPad mini. Is it worth it or should I keep doing what I am doing and buy myself one when I reach my goal?l

    No way.
I wouldn't do it, that just seem silly.

I wouldn't do it, but only you know what's most important to you.

Although that particular rule makes no sense to me.

keep up with your weight loss and buy your own ipad mini as a reward :)
the higher your weight the more risk of heart attacks and such, you have a beautiful baby there, I think her having a healthy daddy is more inportant :)

wouldnt that be cheating and basically the opposite of what your company is trying to accomplish?

I would never intentionally gain weight for any reason other than health and certainly not to win a gadget

if you really want to do it and not sidetrack your previous progress, you could load up on water (lots of water), just before the weigh in. you could probably add 10 lbs of water weight that way, which your body will quickly flush. it's not exactly honest or ethical, but unless there is a company rule against it...

1 gallon of water weighs a bit more than 8lbs.
  • You guys basically confirmed my thought process. I think I will sit this one out. I may help those who ask, but I don't want to take a step backwards to win a "toy". Thanks for all the help and support. This site is the only reason I stay on track. You guys all ROCK!!

I would do it. I mean its free man, if you add 10 lbs it will give you something to do, and a new goal. It doesn't have to be 10lbs fat, add some muscle and water weight to it. I mean you could use that little I pod thing for so much - to even help lose that 10 lbs ah

Considering most of these weight loss challenges focus on weight loss rather than fat loss then I don't see the problem with this.

Really, if you "cheat" you deserve a promotion. You are applying knowledge effectively to achieve a desired outcome. Why should you be penalised for doing something knowingly which other people do unconsciously in these competitions?

If your hell bent on ipads. The ipad 2, if there still out are only like $50 more than a mini.

If you REALLY want to be in the competition.

step 1 boots. wear work boots
Step 2 layers wear a tee shirt and a sweater, bulkier the better.
step 3 coins.buy duct tape and get 20 rolls of quarters
Step 4 disassemble the rolls and tape them to the duct tape.
Step 5 lift your bulky sweater and tape to the tee shirt.
step 6 if needed go get some pantyhose, wear them, and tape more coins to your legs
    step 7 pants
    step 8 profit

Got to agree with this! I either do it right or not at all. I am leaning towards the not at all. Just help someone else lose the weight so they can benefit from the challenge!

i would protest discrimination against skinny people lol ...... I mean seriously who makes a rule "you have to be this fat before you can be apart of our weight loss team".

No it is for those who took part in last years challenge. You can't be more then 10% less then you were last year. it is to kind of keep those like me who have a great retuin down already from just killing everyone just starting.

Edit: For a Mini iPad...not worth it. But then I am inherently anti-Apple in most cases.

Yeah I was going to say, it should be too difficult to *kitten* 10lbs of other stuff to your body at the starting point... refer to Kenny vs Spenny for more ideas:

((ETA)) you could always add the weight back on to yourself for the final weigh-in, to keep everything balanced.
