diabetic frustration

Ok here goes. I went to the dr last feburary because i cant lose weight. I was told then that I am diabetic and i have to get all my numbers in line before i can lose weight, i also have a thyroid problem. SO... now after a lot of hard work and taking meds, not insulin shots tho... all numbers are in line. Why can I still not lose any weight? I do have a hard time staying motivated so I bought a WII and the Biggest Loser Challange work out and i do it all the time. also the WII fit program and lots of walking... still nothing. Im so frustrated it makes me want to quit and just give up

It's normal to be frustrated, but until we know your calorie goal, how much you want to lose, what you are currently eating, we really can't suggest changes you can make.0

Oh don't give up! You can do it! Sometimes you just have to get over the hump and then you lose alot all at once! could be you are building muscle! Could be your body testing you to see if things are going to stay the same (levels I mean) I have low thyroid and am told to moniture my sugar. I know it can be frustrating (alot of diabetics in my family with low thyroid) it will happen! It will!0

What is your diet like? Diet is the majority of weight loss.
Starting out exercising on the Wii is great. I wouldn't use it as my sole exercise though.
HOw much weight do you need to lose? How much are you eatin gdaily? What foods are you eating? Are you drinking water? Getting enough fibre and protein?
Weight loss takes a lot of work. Don't give up or youy will never change what you want to change. Weight won't always go down with weight loss either... it isn't linear.0 -
Go read up on diabetic side-effects to your health and you'll have all the motivation you need. Start eating right and exercising and you can beat this. You don't have to drop a pound every week but get serious about being healthy. Your diet is at least 70% of the issue. No amount of exercise in the world will fix this if you don't eat healthy. Log your food, plan all your meals out ahead of time and you'll be successful.0

I'm really sorry to hear you are having a hard time. My mother-in-law is a diabetic and has struggled with the same issue. She went on Nutrisystem and has lost the weight but always worries if she goes back to "real" food she will gain again. It sounds like you are trying and that really is a great step. She found the portions were the key to her losing the weight. I found out I have Hashimoto's and I am struggling with Thyroid symptons but my blood work is normal. I had no idea how much auto-immune diseases can really mess up the balance of you body. I wish I had better advice but keep trying and you will find what works best for you and your body.0

Most insurances will cover dietician counseling if you're diabetic. I would STRONGLY recommend taking advantage of that benefit if it's available to you! With diabetics, it's not just total calories consumed/calories burned, you have to be more mindful of consistant carbohydrates and the RIGHT kind of carbs.
Exercise EVERY day because you are a diabetic EVERY day. Exercise helps your body recognize your own insulin better and you'll have better control of your blood sugars. You don't have to go the the gym for an hour each time, but get out for at least a 20 min walk each day and try to get a sweat going (speedwalk, go up hills, etc.)

I'm 5'1" and weighed 185 pounds... my A1C was over 10! There was no way I wanted to go down that road because I saw what being diabetic did to my mother and others in my family. This is your LIFE.... no treats are worth dying over, or losing a foot over, or going blind over. With the guidance of a nutritionist they can tell you what you should and shouldn't be eating and in what quantities to get those numbers down and KEEP them down. I lost 67 pounds and with no medication all of my numbers were perfect. It's a lifestyle choice. You need to know exactly what it is that you are doing now that keeps you from losing weight... what are you eating? Portion size? Are you moving your body? Start logging EVERYTHING, and don't leave anything out. That's the only way you're truly going to see what you're starting with so you'll know what to do next. Again.... and I can't stress this enough... this is your life! It's not about looking good in a pair of jeans, it's about all of the complications that come with diabetes and the havoc it racks your body with! I wish you all the luck in the world! Have you seen a diabetes educator? See a diabetic nutritionist. They will show you how to eat. Or look online - in the proper places - it's a pretty simple diet plan, you just have to commit to doing it. The weight will come off, or at least it does for me.
Keep a positive attitude and follow the instructions they give you. If you do that, good things will happen, if you don't it won't - that simple.0 -

Then I have to ask, are you honestly and truly logging every single thing you're eating? I say this because by not doing that, the only person you're cheating is yourself! (I have a sister that lived right next door to me... I'd hear her come in my back door, my cookie jar lid would open and shut, then she'd exit. In her head, the cookies she ate at my house didn't count!) If you're eating more calories than you're burning, of course you will gain, and if you're eating exactly as much as you're burning, there is no way you'll lose an ounce. Often, people estimate how much of something they ate, logging the 5 ounces they THINK they consumed when it was actually 10. Perhaps you need to be diligently weighing your food? I'm not trying to be harsh... I know exactly what you're going through! Gaining weight is the easiest thing in the world to do. Losing it is hard work and not always a lot of fun. Again, this isn't about looking nice in a pair of size 4 jeans. Someone else on here said you should do a web search of what Diabetes can do to your body, inside and out. It's the leading cause of blindness and that's just for starters! This isn't just about losing your weight but making permanent changes in the way you approach food... for the rest of what will hopefully be your long, healthy life!0

I am very aware of what it does. The first thing i did was look up everything that can go on with this. I quit smoking, cut out all soda drink only water. I have never been a big eater and am usually under the correct calorie count which i know is just as bad as being over. cut back on fruits and added more vegatables. possible that i need to start weighing the food, thanks for that suggestion.0

It might also help (if your nutritionist hasn't done this already) to find out what your BMR is.0

Are you controlling your carbs and getting enough sleep? You have severe Metabolic and Endocrine issues with Diabetes and Thyroid issues.
Controlling the quality and quantity of your carb sources will allow your body to start losing weight.
I have PCOS, Adrenal Fatigue, Type 2 Diabetes, Hypo-thyroid so I know what you are going through.0 -

I think that's one of the biggest pitfalls to weight loss. What Americans have been taught in recent years is a "serving" is way out of proportion! Eventually, you may be able to "eyeball" what 4-5 ounces of chicken is, or what a cup of something is, but initially I think it's very important to weigh and measure everything.0
