A homeless man asked me if I was pregnant today.......

    Something I have learned in the last couple of years in my life is to take these negative comments and use them to your advantage. Don't be depressed, DO something about it. My sister is so self conscious about her weight that anything you say to her regarding weight issues she freaks out instead of applying them for a better cause. Eat well, go to the gym and in 2 months go walk past that homeless man and show him what your made of.

    You should have told him, "I'm pregnant with enthusiasm about the way I'm going to look after a few weeks on my diet!":smile:

    I bet he asks every woman that passes him whether she's pregnant or not..probably just a sick source of amusement for him.

    Completely sucks! I am sorry, have been there. But guess what you ARE doing something about it! Keep at it! You can do it and @##$ stupid people and their stupid comments. I just try to remember I will never be this heavy again, every day is about moving forward! :flowerforyou:

    I have gotten that a lot. I used to get it at my old job from customers constantly.
    I used to really let it get me down.
    I would just focus on it constantly and obsess about my body.

    Now, instead of focusing on how bad I feel I go take a walk or do some aerobics and afterwards I know that a day will come when I know I will never be asked that question (unless I really am preggers)

    So keep your head up and don't let it get to you!

    There are literally 25 to 30 homeless people nightly on my block. I just happen to live right smack dab in the middle of most of the city shelters. Many of these people are mentally ill, alcoholics, drug addicts, or all of the above. This may not be the case in your area, but if it is, just remember that someone who isn't in their right mind shouldn't be able to make you feel badly about yourself.

    For instance when a very large homeless woman told me my curly hair made me look like a troll doll that day, I figured it probably wasn't all that true... considering she wasn't wearing any pants.

    Ya a patient of my boyfriends asked if I was pregnant last weekend and I told her no, that I just had a food baby. Then she said, "It's ok, I need to lose some weight too." Grr! The funny thing is, I'm really not that big, just hold my weight in the front more and was also wearing a flowey dress. :( VERY frustrating especially when you've been working out so hard and counting calories. Use it as motivation and you'll be fine! Just be happy you aren't that rude of a person! :)

    Honestly, I really don't know why it matters it was a "homeless" man. In this economy there might be a good reason he was down on his luck. Being overweight myself, I guess I am just more sensitive to being judged on appearances. I do know that it must have been dissapointing to be asked such a question when we are all trying so hard to improve our lives and health. I hope that with each passing day all of our lives improve in every aspect.

    Thanks for the early morning laugh about the pantsless homeless woman.. Yes, I have been there too - seems like that's where all of my extra weight ends up and I look pregnant.. I have a very thin skin and still get quite upset, but I am working on it -- sometimes very well meaning people can hurt our feelings without really meaning to.

    First of all I think it is pretty idiotic to ask someone if they are pregnant unless they are like belly button popping out 9 months pregnant and dialated to a 5. Give me a break!!!! Rude, Rude, Rude. My son's speech therapist is starting to look pregnant to me and I will not even dare to ask if she is unless she gets in the state I have mentioned above or she tells me. I am keeping that one to myself. My sad story is with my last baby I was so heavy noone could tell I was pregnant that was very dissappointing because my belly stuck out and I wore maternity clothes I was just so heavy noone was sure!!!:cry::cry: It is okay though I weigh 60 pounds less than I did the day I gave birth so I am now on the right track.

    Good job on being here and working towards your goals I am sure you do not look preggo and the guy was just an idiot!!!!!!

    A few months ago, I was waiting on the train to go to work, and some street lady starting yelling at me "Boy are you FAT! You'd better give ME some money because YOU get enough to EAT! You oughta be ashamed of yourself, eating all that food, when I ain't got ***!"

    I ALMOST . . . . ALMOST!!!!!! turned to her with a wicked smile and said "Yes, I get PLENTY to eat, thanks! I'm on my way to get more food right now."

    But she was a hungry homeless street woman who was mad at life and mad at everyone who had what she didn't. Clearly I had a LOT of what she didn't. So I ignored her. But there was a small crowd waiting for the train with me, and I really had to focus to not show my humiliation.

    And by the way, I get asked about once every 3 months if I'm pregnant. My standard response is to look at them and say "No, I'm not pregnant. I'm fat." Then I watch them writhe in embarrassment.

    Where I used to work, one of the ladies from finance greeted me in the hall with great joy and said "You are pregnant!" I pulled my usual routine and said "No, I'm not pregnant. I'm fat." She actually ARGUED with me! She patted my belly and said "Nooo, this isn't fat. I can tell. This is baby!" I said "You are making an *kitten* of yourself. I am fat, but you are rude." She shrugged and walked away.

    Another time (I'm on a roll now), I invited someone to come and speak at an event I was hosting. She and I chatted a little prior to her going up in front of the audience. Right before she went on stage, she said "And I see you're expecting! How exciting for you!" I said "I'm not pregnant. I'm fat." She looked stricken.

    The poor woman had to go up and talk in front of an audience for about 20 minutes, with me standing right near the front. She pulled it off beautifully. She came offstage, came over to me, and tried to apologize. I actually felt sorry for her. I said, "Well, I do look pregnant, but you might not want to comment on things like that to women unless you know for sure." She actually burst into tears and I hugged her.

    OMG, little sister, that is the funniest thing I have heard all day. I can totally relate.

    I used to be a teller at a rinky dink credit union. Most of our members were Police, firemen, city workers, etc. anyway, one of my regulars is a cop and said "I gotta ask you a question. I've been meaning to ask for sometime." I say "Ok, shoot." He says "Are you pregnant?" My face dropped! And he saw the shock on my face. He said "Oh my god. I'm so sorry! I only asked because a couple of the other guys at the station asked me!" GREAT.....the whole police department is talking about how fat I am. :embarassed:

    At the same place I also had one rude lady who litterally asked me once a week for two months. Like you, my usual response became "No, I'm not pregnant, I'm just fat." but after a while my response to her became "No, are you?":devil:

    I'd see it as an enormous boost to the ego. Comment or not...they've all obviously noticed you. Wink! :wink:

    :drinker: Sooner or later during a lifetime of femaleness someone will ask you if you are pregnant. For me sometimes it depended on the fashions I wore (I think it was the seventies) :laugh: and sometimes it was because I was indeed pregnant (seventies and eighties) :ohwell:

    But to be asked if I were pregnant at my current age (58) has taken the cake! Annoying little runt of a *bad word* it was a wonder that I let him live. Of course some people are idiots and should be caught with their pants down, and some people may even be mortified about making that mistake. Nonetheless, people throughout the ages have said things that should never have been said. At the same time, I could ostensibly take it as a compliment that I look young for my age.

    :flowerforyou: I can honestly say that I have learned a valuable lesson from you posters today. The variety of responses have made my day. I think I will practice some of these responses just in case.:bigsmile:

    yeah they noticed me....they noticed how fat i was. lol

    weight asside, my members there LOVED me. they were so upset when I left that location. I do miss them sometimes, rude comments and all. :ohwell:
