So you want someone to tell you exactly what to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner? People can offer you ideas, people can help trty to motivate you, but in the end if you don't have the drive and determination to do this, you won't succeed.

Also, the spacing of your meals doesn't matter. You can lose weight regardless of the times you eat if you're in a deficit.

Also, viewing it as a diet probably isn't helping either.

It's called willpower. You either have it or you don't, we can't give it to you.

ok lets go to the basics, you are going to lose weight only by watching your calories, calories in less than calories needed and there is science behind it, so watch your calories and just to let you know, yes you can eat everything you want even pizza, i eat pizza all the time and still losing weight i just changed to my fitnesspal because it has better options.

so you can eat everything and anytime even once a day. if you are a heavy eater it is simple, fast all day and have 1 huge meal while watching you calories even u can have zero coke or any soda with zero calories, check on IIFYM term which is flexible dieting

There is no such thing as "can't diet" first of all. I am a student, I have lost 13 pounds since the beginning of school in September, and I haven't hit the gym much either. I don't follow a "set" diet for breakfast, lunch, dinner. I just make healthy food choices and monitor how much I am eating by using MFP.

Honestly, you have to have some self-control if you want to be successful. You talk about watching yourself overeat as if you are on the outside looking in, that needs to stop. You are in control of yourself and your dietary habits. You say you make healthy choices, so just make a concerted effort at portion control.

    Good luck :)

Yep. What ended up working best for me is eating most of my calories in the evening. I typically skip breakfast entirely because I'm WAY hungrier at night and I enjoy eating with my bf. Just LOG everything, and at the end of the day if your calories are on target, you will lose weight. I don't even put too much focus on the carbs/fat/protein stuff either. It's not as important to me as it is to some.
Also, I don't eat back my exercise calories. It just adds even more to my daily deficit.
Annnd also...If you overeat one day, you can make it up another day. Example: my budget is about 1300 cals, so if Saturday I ate 1600 calories, Sunday I can eat 1000 and still be okay (I try to stick to the daily budget though)
Not sure if this is helpful but, it's working for me so...

PS I try to get to the gym 4-5 days/week, and that has helped A LOT.

^ Agreed! Wondering the age of OP? Adolscent I'm guessing? Following a "meal plan" (a.k.a. 'diet') is maybe a helpful guide when you start out (i.e. to get ideas for healthy options etc) but what's most important is learning what your body needs and committing to providing yourself with healthy nutrient dense FUEL. You say you "overate" after school the other day, was it healthy food just excessive portions? Why do you think you did that? Maybe you were hungry? Were there emotional factors/stress/fatigue involved? Don't be discouraged, be ENCOURAGED and positive. MFP and food journaling in general is a very helpful tool to be accountable about what we are eating and to look at patterns (i.e. OMG I was staaaaaaaaaarving after work today and ate 600 kcal for a "snack!" Hmmm, oh wait look I've been kinda stingy on protein for the last few days.) Best of luck to you, think loooong term lifestyle and if you commit to healthy eating and physical activity you will be successful!

Maybe you are aiming for too few calories in the first place. It's an easy way to set yourself up for failure. Eat a little less than you burn per day and you'll lose.

Measure, log & pack your food the day before. Take it with you. Dont come home hungry...eat out of your "doggy bag". Working for me!
  • I think you should open your diary. Also be accountable to yourself using mfp . It does help when you can sit back and SEE what you are eating. Honesty with yourself is the first step. It is hard in the beginning but no one loses or gains weight through magic. It is math. Cold hard math but you have to put yourself in the equation and remember that what you eat or dont eat and what you do and dont do is the only variable that matters.

You need to figure out what is causing you to overeat, what triggers it?. This is all a lifestyle change not a diet, it will be your determination and motivation that will enable you to change your habits not any body else. Losing weight is really quite simple if you have a deficiet in energy balance you will lose weight. I lost 40kg once, then after the birth of my children I just got slack again went back to the same old routines, now I have lost 13kg again and this time I am determined to keep it off!! and am now a qualified trainer.

So, change some habits.. do you exercise, train? Anything, just get out and move, nutrition plays a huge factor in weight loss success so getting those habits right is essential. If you need any in depth help or advice let me know.

Totally can identify with you. I went to OA and I also sought a dietician to show me what to eat, how much and when to eat. I follow that and exercise daily. You can do it, you just gotta find what works for you-good luck.

I work 3 jobs... 1 is full time, 1 is permenant part time working nights and the other is part time at the gym... I also have 2 kids and fit in my gym 5 days a week... If I can do all that I'm sure you can manage to eat clean and do what is needed to be done... but with your I can't attitude your already setting yourself up for failure.. change your attitude and preplan your meals for the next day the evening before so all you have to do is grab your food and go

Hi. I recognize your feelings of panic and desperation. Take a deep breath, now take another one.

have you spent much time reading the posts on the forums here on MFP? If not, it's time to start. You will learn a lot and simply reading about a healthy lifestyle frequently can be motivating and encouraging.

You have a little extra weight but it's not a huge amount. Your body will want you to lose it slowly. Also you are young and probably pretty active if you are in school....most campuses require a fair amount of walking, if nothing else. So you need a slight calorie deficit. Look at your settings on MFP and make sure you are set to lose 1/2 pound per week. Then stick to your total calories most days. Eat lots of veggies and fruits and since you are vegetarian make sure you are getting enough protein to feel full....that means beans and tofu?? perhaps dairy if you are allowing that.

If you continue to have problems with binging please see a counselor.

Anyone can buckle down and loose weight if they wish, it just requires a little bit of determination and some restraint. And the ways that you eat ie the time of day doesn't matter as much as the amounts you eat. I prefer to eat most of my food for the day between about 6am and 1pm. That is when I am most hungry. Then ill have something small in the evening. You don't have to sit down to three meals a day, or six small ones. Eat when you are truly hungry and give yourself a slap on the hand when you find yourself aimlessly wandering to the cupboard to snack
  • This sounds like emotional eating to me. What is eating you? Do you keep an emotional journal or have you thought about seeing a counselor. I think willpower is important. But sometimes it is about addiction. Sugar, Carbs, turning to food to get away from feelings and then becoming compulsive about it. There are lots of books out there about emotional eating. Jeannene Roth, and others. Consider it. You don't sound like someone who has no willpower. You can get the emotional support you need here, but you will have to do your part.
