On the go Breakfast ideas

I recently switched ADHD medication to one that takes longer to kick in than the old one. I like that since I'd like to start eating breakfast because according to MFP I need to take in more calories daily in-order to get out of starvation mode.

I don't have enough time in the AM to even eat a bowl of cereal, so it has to be something I can consume on the go. Ideally something that I can just grab from the fridge or pantry and eat/drink on the drive into work.

I've tried a few 'healthy' granola/breakfast bars but most of them have a weird taste/texture and those that don't taste funk end up making my stomach upset. I really like Kashi bars because they don't bother my stomach and they taste good, however, they are kinda small and IMO so dry it makes them hard to swallow (even w/ a drink).

I like the idea of a protein shake but I have yet to find one that I can stand to drink, lol. I found a lot of them have an almost metallic after-taste :/

Also I heard that if you drink a protein shake and don't exercise after drinking it, the extra protein will make you gain weight- is that true or total B.S.?

Thanks in advance :)

    This is B.S.

For protein, my favorite tasting is Optimum nutririton's cookies and cream or any of their vanilla flavors. A good recipe is about 1/2 cup milk, 2 tbsp peanut butter, cup of oats, 2 scoops of whey protein, and some crushed ice. You won't taste the oats. Somewhere around 600 cals, you can always adjust ingredients based on your total cal goals.

You could try bagels, hard boiled eggs, you could make your own egg sandwiches, egg and cheese burritos, you could eat fruits like apples and bananas that are quick to bring in the car.

Are you the one driving? If so, that limits it. Try Syntha Six if you want a protein powder (the vanilla ice cream flavor is really good, especially mixed with coconut milk). You could also make your own granola mix to bring. Hard boiled eggs are easy to eat once peeled. It doesn't have to be traditional breakfast foods first thing in the AM either. A PB sandwich would be easy and portable. Yogurt/fruit smoothies or green smoothies. A banana and a handful of almonds.

    - Low sugar protein bar plus two pieces of fresh fruit
    - Hardboiled eggs/ portions of cheese plus mixed raw veggies which you boxed up the night before
    - Homemade smoothie (scoop of whey protein powder plus frozen berries plus plain yoghurt/ creamed coconut/ banana/ peanut butter/ spinach depending on your goals and tastes). Buy a stick blender that has its own cup with a lid for a 'take out', rinse the stick blender under the tap, the whole thing should take a minute or so.

Yes I am the one driving, sorry lol.... And I'm not the most coordinated person lol. Granola-mixes and nuts and such will end up decorating my car floor hahaha.

I was thinking banana but it's not going to help my calorie intake much, I don't think. Unless I had a bunch of them.. But I drive on 95 not many stop lights available for peeling :P

Thanks for the other suggestions though guys, can they be prepared the night before??

I have found Optimum Nutrition and the Casein Protein in Cookies & Cream. It tastes good and keep me fuller. I also grab hardboiled egg whites and a banana. Those are pretty good.

You cannot make a smoothie the night before, once you have smashed up the fruit it will start oxidising and the nutrients will be destroyed. But honestly it will take you a minute once you get into a routine and if you don't have to mess about with transferring from one container to another. Many veggies are fine prepped the night before, just cut big chunks so there is not too much surface area and take bites like you would cereal bar.

Try fruits that don't need peeling like black grapes, green apples, pears, plums, nectarines, cherries and strawberries or peel the odd banana or orange right before you leave and pop it in a tupperware. There does come a point where you can put too many obstacles in your own way and the real solution is to get up five minutes earlier. So what if you drop a few nuts on the floor of your car? You can buy nut/ seed (little to no cereal grains) bars in health food stores.

You could make your own granola bars (I'm not that into premade ones). That'd help with the lack of coordination :)

The eggs could be made the night before.

This might be worth a shot:

Toast 12 English muffins (using the broiler is quickest)
Bake 12 eggs (crack one into each well of a whoopie pie or giant muffin pan, break yolk, add pepper)
Make up sandwiches with an english muffin, egg, precooked sausage patty (or turkey bacon or veggie patty) and a slice of cheese. Wrap them up and freeze them.

Then you can take one out, microwave it (I do about 2min on 50% power, flipping over halfway through) and eat it on the go. If you're really super pressed for time, brush your teeth in the kitchen while it cooks.

I always cut up fruit (usually pears and apples) and that's really easy to eat in the car. You could peel the banana on the way to your car or it should take all of 10 seconds once you're in the car.

To be honest though, I'm kind of leaning toward waking up 5min earlier because eating in the car isn't particularly safe, especially if you're particularly coordinated. I tend to eat in the car but I also live in the Boston area so I spend a lot of time sitting at red lights.
