I gotta say, since pregnancy, I couldn't get enough Mozzarella. However, I had the baby 6 months ago. I still have this insane craving for Mozzarella cheese, Brie, cheddar....pretty much any kind of cheese...lol. I know it sounds weird, but hey! I was wondering if there was anyone else who was a big fan of cheese, and what you were eating in its place? I try to buy the part-skim mozzarella, but even that has a ton of calories, so i want to try an alternative....

Laughing cow deli light blue cheese triangles, 25 cals a triangle and a real strong blue cheese flavour.0

Love cheese too, it's so addictive Low-fat cottage cheese is a pretty good alternative though - you can have it on small crackers for example!0

I dont have trouble with this but I recently saw on a British TV show a nutritionist recommend soft tofu in place of cheese, or even just low-fat cottage cheese has fewer calories.
Link to the show if your interested; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLBiGh3oXjQ
Its a bit gimmicky but I thought it was fun to watch anyway.
edit; too slow haha, sorry for the repeat, also, not saying at all you are like the girl on the show, her case is a bit extreme, just saying the nutritionists advice may be helpful.0 -
Thanks guys!!! I'm going to look for this stuff while I'm food shopping!!!0

You can always have string cheese as a snack. Even the low-cal ones are good!0

I just eat cheese. Really, really good artisan cheese. It's worth it. If eaten alone, a little bit goes a long way and it won't break your calorie bank.0

Don't know where you shop but Aldi's has the Fit & Active line of foods that are really good. I get the Fit & Active string cheese and their version of the light laughing cow cheese. For Shredded cheese for other things I do the Kraft Fat Free. Also good is the Mission Cheddar Cheese Dip, 45 calories for 2 tbs. I am a cheese-a-holic in case you couldn't tell!! LOL0

i just cut chunks of mozzarella and eat it.
i use the laughing cow light creamy swiss and light sundried tomato basil too, i just made a pizzadilla with the laughing cow instead of shredded and it was pretty good (they are 30 cals a wedge)
or what others said, you can find a low cal string cheese, some are around 50 cals a piece.
i freaking love cheese, this is why i can't go completely vegan0 -
mmmm cheese! Nom nom nom0

I'm always weary of eating anything that's "low fat" because I don't like the nutrients you end up losing. I usually eat full fat cheese, a bit at a time, because it has fat and protein, and no carbs :P
I don't eat it every day, but I definitely have it as a snack. Cottage cheese 2% I eat a couple times a week as breakfast, and it actually curbs my cheese cravings later in the day.
Don't stop eating cheese though! It's a good source of calcium and as women, we usually aren't getting enough!0 -
Trader Joe's spreadable brie wedges - 40 calories0

There is no alternative to cheese. None whatsoever. All of this tofu/laughing cow/babybel *kitten* is just.... well... *kitten*. It's not cheese. If you want cheese the only humane thing to do is eat real cheese. In the past couple of weeks I've had cabrales, stilton, brie, several different sharp cheddars, a couple of other bleus, a couple of goat cheeses, a five year gouda, manchego, and probably a couple of others. Make room in your diet for it. Accept no substitutes. There is little in life finer than good cheese and a really nice craft beer.0

It's true!0 -
I still eat all my favorite cheeses, but in moderation! Brie, blue, cheddar, goat, manchego, you name it. Weighing it on a scale helps so I don't overindulge.0

I agree, just get some good stuff. I love the crazy sharp aged cheddar. Just 1/2 an ounce has a ridiculous amount of flavor. Break it off the block in small pieces and just let it melt on the tongue.
Great. Now I want cheese. It's all your fault.0 -
I love cheese. I find a way to fit it into my calories no matter what. As a stupidhead in the past, I would cut cheese out to try and lose weight and only ended up making myself miserable and putting more pounds back. I LOVE Edam cheese. It's kinda pricey, but I think it's a lower calorie alternative to some if I remember correctly.0

I love cheese! Have to say, I buy the good stuff (applewood smoked cheddar or aged cheddar are my faves). I can usually stick to a portion size. If that's hard for you, as mentioned the laughing cow wedges are pretty good on crackers or melba toasts.0

I'd rather just eat real cheese. I ate too much of it before (too much for my goals) so now I eat it in smaller portions.0
-
Just eat the real stuff in moderation. I'd rather portion out some real cheese and enjoy every bit of it than try and be satisfied with some rubbery knock off.0

I love cheese, and in place of it I eat...cheese!!!
I eat it an ounce or so at a time. I like the sharper cheeses. I bought a wedge of parmesan once and just cut off 1 oz chunks and snacked on those with some peppers and tomatoes...yum!
I love having cheese for a snack, and I think it's a great low calorie option in many ways. One ounce of cheese with some fruit or veggies doesn't really have any more calories than a granola bar or something like that and fills me up so much longer. Sometimes for a quick lunch I'll have 1-2 oz of cheese with a serving of Triscuits and some spicy hot V-8 juice. It fills me up and keeps me full for quite a long time.
I will use the reduced fat cheeses on things like tacos and in casseroles where the cheese is just a player, not the star, but if I'm eating it just to eat it, I'm having the stuff I love.0
