I've never been heckled before. In the past, if anyone ever shouted something at me from a car window the subject manner generally had something to do with me being Tits McGee. Anyway, I was just walking to meet some friends after work tonight and a van of idiot college students rolled down their window and yelled, "You should start running. You have a big fat *kitten*!" at me. Nice.
I guess it could have hurt me initially because no one likes to be made to feel like less than what they are. But then I thought, hey I don't even know them, they don't know me, and I'm not going to waste energy analyzing and being hurt by them. And what's the kicker is that I really don't have a fat *kitten*. When I put on weight after college, I think everything but the *kitten* got big. Naturally the irony to the situation is that I am LOSING weight. I have started running again, and I bet I probably could have outrun any of the jokers in that van. I'm not training for 5K and 10Ks for nothing!
I guess there just always comes a time where we can let what people say hurt us, or we can use it as fuel to our burning fire for motivation. Sure it stung at first, and I'm sure they high-fived eachother and had a good laugh. But I'm the winner of the situation, not them. I'm the one who am going to live a healthy, happy, and respectable life....not them (presumably).
They ought to just be glad I didn't have my Adidas sneakers on. Or else I would've chased them down and make them eat their not so eloquent words.
Stay strong. Stay empowered. Stay healthy,
Denise

Good for you...the world is full of idiots, and unfortunately it's considered poor form to cull the herd...don't let a bunch of intellectual midgets get to you...0

I love your quote!!!!0 -
What a bunch of Schmucks!!! You do have a great attitude, who cares what they say. You know, I was once walking holding hands with my husband in downtown Indy and a girl hanging out a car window yelled "You two make a really ugly couple" to us. I thought insults we're supposed to be short and sweet...what's up with all the long drawn out thoughts...
I hope you got a good look at some of their faces because they will be the dudes trying to hit on you in a bar next time you are out, just watch!0 -
(((hugs))) Of course it stings. You're right on track with your awesome attitude and already progressing with your weight loss. Shame on them for having no class, no compassion, no character and no maturity.0

We all possess the power to either brighten someone's day or to upset or depress others. It never ceases to amaze me how some people can find entertainment in the sadness of others.
I'm sorry that you had this experience, but I'm glad that you have such a positive attitude to help you get past it, and I'm also glad that you took a few minutes to share with the rest of us.0 -
What a bunch of jerks!! I wish I could have had your attitude when this happened to me last summer. I was on my bike and was stopped at a red light. A car full of college guys pulled up next to me. Of course, all the windows were down and I became the brunt of several rude comments like "Hey, look at the fat chick on the bike" "I wonder when she'll blow a tire" "Poor bike", etc. I cried all the way home and let it put my self image even further in the toilet than it already was.
No more. I envy you your self control and positive attitude but you can bet your sweet shrinking hiney that I won't be that "fat chick on a bike" this summer!!
Thanks for the encouragement!!0 -
Mean and stupid people will always find a way to be mean and stupid. Don't take it personally, it wasn't really about you. You were just there.
<<Edit - pissy, irrelevant rant about college pukes deleted>>..0 -
