Temporary appetite suppressant?

I normally eat when I'm hungry, but for the times I'm not hungry, and simply bored and don't want to be tempted, I've just found out what can stop me from eating anything...at least for 30 minutes or so..until the urge to "just eat" passes.

Cough drops! Or anything with menthol in it. It makes anything you eat or drink taste horrible!

How do you curb the curb 'boredom binges"??

That sounds like a way to develop a really unhealthy relationship with food.

I concur. After I've eaten, my appetite is usually suppressed. Especially if I remember to have loads of protein and fiber. Otherwise, it takes about seven cupcakes.

I don't even know how to reply to this. You're asking for an appetite suppressant to use in those times when you are not actually hungry?

Seriously, tricking yourself through bad habits is not a long term solution. It's a good way to go from one bad habit to another. Not to mention, cough drops are basically candy...and sugar free ones are made of sugar alcohols (read: laxitives). Try going for a walk, or adjusting your nutritional goals such that you're satiated between meals. Take a step back and look at the big picture. Developing self control is a recipe for success for accomplishing any goal you have.

    I don't understand the question.

Are you asking what I do to keep from eating when I'm not hungry?

What keeps my appetite under control is -

    *will power and self control
*eating small meals and healthy snacks through out the day (I rarely feel hungry or deprived)
*staying focused on my calorie goal and knowing that mindless snacking will put me over
    *water, tea and coffee
    *preplanning and logging my day
*eating enough calories so I don't feel starved
*envisioning that perfect outfit and imagining that I'm rocking it!!
*I used to chew a lot of sugar free gum but I find that it upsets my stomach and makes me bloated now
    *stay busy
    *take a walk
    *exercise
*budget calories to allow for a treat

All good diversions for me that keep me from mindless snacking

Menthol kinda works for me, too. The only problem with menthol (and mint) is that it makes your stomach produce more acid than it needs. If you have acid reflux issues (or start coughing) then you should switch to something else. I've had an ulcer so that's not going to work for me.

I chew Trident watermelon flavored gum to stave off the appetite. Caffeine is also an appetite suppressant but I don't like to use that in the afternoon because I won't be able to sleep at night.

If you are truly hungry eat. If you just had a meal but still feel like eating something out of boredom, try having a hot lemon tea, or snack on something low calorie like pocorn, or carots. Mostly i think you need to occupy your mind with something else if it's just boredom and not actual hunger. Paint your nails, read a book, go for a walk, go window shopping!

    Yes

I normally don't eat when I'm not hungry, unless I want a snack, and then I have a snack. I don't just let myself mindlessly eat all day. If I'm bored, then I do something to keep my mind busy, or some sort of activity or exercise.

You're doing it wrong! Only crank will suppress your appetite *while* burning loads of calories! Sheesh!
