30 day shred and no weight loss?

Hi guys,
I’m on day 15 of the 30 day shred and I have not lost any WEIGHT I do see a difference in my body and I think I have lost some inches (if only I took my measurements) Anyways, I’m wondering if anyone else has had this same experience? I’m kinda new to the whole lifting thing so I’m using 3lbs weights, and my eating isn’t the greatest but I’m within my calorie intake on most days. Any advice? My diary is open to the public.

The usual advice for this kind of question. Don't worry too much about the scale and measure yourself! I dropped quite a bit of weight at the start of the year, but barely changed size. Then I did two months of 30 DS and RI30 and lost little weight but dropped a couple sizes. Weight and size aren't linear relationships. I once put too much importance on weight, but now I don't really care so much and I see reducing my body fat and becoming leaner and stronger as a better goal than aiming for a number on the scale.

I did 30ds for November. I lost a total of 0.5 lbs.....lol but my profile pic is my before and after....lost some tummy and gained some muscle so I'm fine with that.

I lost 3lbs and 10.5 inches in November, I am going at it again here in December. Don't look at that scale, feel it in your body.

Definitely going to start paying more attention to the inches rather than weight. I was able to fit into some jeans that I couldn’t squeeze into a few months ago – so something must be working! Thanks for the advice :)

I would like to use this post as an example for a question I have. Virtually no weight lost doing the 30DS, but yes to inches lost. How does this affect the BMI? Wouldn't it stay the same? Because her weight has remained the same (virtually).
Aren't we looking to get a healthier BMI at some point? If you don't lose weight, just inches, how does that happen?

I didn't lose much weight at all - but it didn't half tone me :)

trying to post the right size to show the difference:

argh can't get the picture the right size but yes measurements huge difference
  • I looked through your journal. You need to eat more or maybe you aren't logging everything. Your body needs fuel (food), and it appears you aren't giving it enough.

BMI is a bit of an outdated and mostly useless measurement. Top athletes (thinking particularly rugby players, for example) have BMIs placing them in the "obese" category. The only two factors it measures are height and weight. Neither are any indication of body fat.

My recommendation to you would be to not worry about BMI, it is a very inaccurate calculation that does not take into account pregnancy or muscle mass. Even MFP has a disclaimer on their BMI calculator page.

Do you have your BMI on your forehead, or on a tag that says "hi, my BMI is....." Don't think so...but everybody can see the size of your butt, or the muscle in your arms.....
I know which one I prefer.....

It isn't about the BMI not being important. The Government is putting a lot of focus on it and they are basing our insurance not on our waist but on our BMI's.

Cool...thank you for all that commented on my BMI inquiry. I know it's not the say all, end all. However, it is one of several indicators of a healthy weight. I just wanted to know what other people thought too. I like briannadunn's response...thank you!

You dont eat enough for 30DS.
Start eating 1500-1600 daily and dont eat back the exercise cals and youll lose the fat.
    Wait...whats your body fat%?

I don't really know all my stats yet. I am fairly fat though-pretty sure. I do understand the concept - ignore the nightly message I get that I am not eating all my calories.

I agree with everyone you says it's more important on how you feel, and inches lost mean more.

I'm on day 28 of 30DS now. I think I've lost about 2lbs. BUT, I gained 4 prior to the loss. My stomach (which still looks about 7mo pregnant) is noticably smaller and the husband keeps telling me I look slimmer. I don't think 30DS is a good lbs lost program. I think it's a wonderful body sculpting program. I have a lot of weight to lose, about 80-90 until I am in the normal range for my height. Once I've dropped more lbs I'll def do this again.

I do the 30DS but not everyday. Since then, my body looks firm and I look slimmer and no more hanging belly. I haven't lost a pound though.
Since a month, following the recommendation of Dan, I have started eating 1400 cal a day. Since 3 days, I have increased to 1600 cal a day. I hide my scale away as well as it was driving me crazy! I look at myself in the mirror instead, and I like the transformation. I am not losing weight but I am not gaining either.

If you want to see results, I would advise you to eat more...

I agree. I think it is better for toning the body. What do you plan on doing after the 30ds? I’m half way through the shred but I’m debating if I should do it again next month or try something different...

I've been adding in a TurboJam workout after I do the 30DS. Today will be my last day of 30DS officially so I'll start the TurboJam advanced schedule(a 1 month schedule) and then in January I'm going to start TurboFire. I may add in a few days of strength training as well. We'll see, lol.
