I do two 1-hour sessions because that's what I can fit into my day during the week.

On the weekends, it's one 2-hour session.

But I also realize that my goals are unusual.

I have been dong 2 or 3 small sessions a day and it fits into my schedule and I have lost 14 pounds in about 3 weeks. I think it just depends on what you can fit in and that you at least excercise a few days a week.

My latest dedicated cardio session overall was broken down into three 10 minute elliptical bursts, each preceding a three minute treadmill burst (I kept the last to two minutes, though).

I do weights for at least 30 mins and my cardio is between 45-60 min.. if I do the elliptical it is only 30 cause I can only handle so much boredom.

Well it doesn't make any difference as long as it is consistent with the intensity. Personally I do the mini-workouts coz I'm having hard time squeezing in 30-60 minutes during weekdays & I can only do one session on a weekend when I have no work.

High Intensity for a short time is the best to burn off fat. My aerobic workouts tend to be about 15 - 20 minutes. But if you've just started then maybe an hour of walking is enough to get you sweating. It really depends on your current fitness level. You want to push yourself so that it is a workout, but you don't want to injure yourself and end up less mobile than before you started.

In a 30 minute session you will end up burning more fat than multiple shorter sessions because your body burns different fuels (carbs vs fat) over time. Go for longer 30-60 minutes when you have time but 5 12 minute sessions spread out through the day is better than nothing.
