i'm getting really sick of hearing this.
If i mess up and eat something junky, i'll forgive myself. I'm human. i'll probably go so far as to say i'll enjoy every taste of that crappy, junky food. but i will not say 'it's ok, i deserved it".
i deserve better than junk. i deserve good, healthy, nutritious food that fills my body's needs.
so, i've started telling myself that. when i steam my veggies, and sit down with the great meal that i've planned out, i think to myself 'i deserve this great food, and it's doing me good'. and it feels good.
nope. not me. I work my *kitten* off at the gym, eat sensibly MOST of the time and then when I sit down to dinner on a Friday night and suck down my beer and chicken wings I say "I effing EARNED this" :drinker:0 -

Which is exactly what I do - a meal or two in a week. The other 54 meals I eat are what I regard as clean and nutritionally sound - that if you discussed the meals (maybe not the calories I take in mind you in the off season) with anyone, they will be hard push to say chicken, rice and veg is unhealthy. A meal or two will not make or break a diet. None stop junk, will eventually stop the heart.
Is this not why 1 in 5 people develop diabetes in the UK and and 1 in 3, die of heart disease?0 -

Considering that I work to pay for all the food that I buy, technically I *HAVE* earned every bite, ergo, I deserve it! I deserve to enjoy the fruits of my labor, as do we all.0 -

As in terms of success? I'm a Gaspari UK athlete ( http://www.gasparinutrition.co.uk/team-gaspari/uk-athletes/matt-wild/ ) and everyone I've coached bar one has made the British finals of the federation they compete in.

I just get tired of people like you who read a bit thinking they know it all, especially when they know a person who knows a good amount. Yes sidesteal knows his stuff, but you cannot ignore what I have said as it IS simple biology.

If I had more time, I would quote SideSteal on the numerous times he has discussed that sugar does NOT derail weight loss. And I am living proof of that fact.
Ok, 10lb on average a month is good, well done - it was wrong of me to say otherwise. HOWEVER...
You didn't lose 10lb a month, that is just the median. if you are honest, you probably dropped 20lb in the first month and then smaller amounts there on in, due to water and glycogen in the muscle lowering.
And I didn't say SUGAR. I said JUNK. Junk being a mixture of proteins/carbs/fats. You are hearing what you want to hear. Junk food will only ever be that - JUNK.
Learning to live a healthy lifestyle is learning to eat in a way that will not return one to the way they were before. A bad November suggests (I may be completely wrong here) you were returning to what made you put the weight on?
Please do not lecture me about healthy eating and you knowing - I've never been near a 40" waist in my life and I'm a 18-19 stone body builder. My profile picture is me. All my pictures are me. I understand the running's of human biology, and have a partner who is psychologist as well who deals with the mental sides that you are experiencing relating to food.
Junk, is junk.
There is no junk food, only junk diets. I practice IIFYM and stick to my ratios.
I am not trying to lecture you at all. Rather, I am simply explaining that your philosophy doesn't suit my lifestyle. I don't believe in so-called "clean eating." I believe in eating foods that I enjoy, hitting my macros, watching my micros from week to week.
And the fact that you are implying that I'm "mental" is pretty rude. That was completely uncalled for and just earned you an "ignore." I have done nothing but offer my own experience and you choose to degrade me. Uncool.

I'm not implying you are mental, I am implying you have a deep seated need for the foods you eat and justify them any way you can. I'm far from saying you a section-able. Maybe objectionable but far from needing mental lock down. Was never implied. You seem very much on the defensive here.
And yes, there is junk food. Care to tell me the benefits of man made fats over natural EFA's etc?0 -

i see your point.
i guess because i'm trying to steer myself away from food being a treat, and more towards food being what keeps my body running. i put on weight because i was constantly eating what i wanted (heavy on the pasta, carbs and full fat dairy) rather that what i should have been eating (a vegetable or two, once in a while), so for me, food really needs to be something to keep my body running, and treats need to be something outside the food realm (like my fortnightly massage, or my recent frock binge). and when i try on a dress in a size i havent fitted into since i was 15 and look in the mirror i say "i effing EARNED this"
and before anyone says 'but you should enjoy what you eat', i never said i don't. i'm loving the things that i'm eating even more because i know they're doing me good!0 -
So a fifth of your calories are junk? Fairly poor going.
You do realise by consuming more junk foods your make yourself less insulin sensitive and more likely to put on fat? You will also increase your triglycerides and other bad markers in the blood.
I would suggest making your junk meals a couple of times a week. You'll find you'll drop weight much easier and improve your blood markers.
Um, how about you let her figure out for herself what works for her, and you stick to what works for you?
She's a grown up, and she knows her lifestyle, body, and life far better than you do. It's kind of her business how she goes about living it.0 -

Oh and of course anyone can diet in any way they want. But does it make it healthy and one that will allow you to keep the weight off because one has learned to live in a way that doesn't require frequent binging on junk food daily. How do you think this weight was achieved that you both are having to lose?0

Actually it was thanks. Feel free to start throwing insults, it is water off a ducks back. You both hold a large amount of body fat for people your height. Your profiles openly say it. You are refusing to look at the likely causes behind the reasons behind this fat gain and what you are attempting to lose.
