We just recently moved to a new town and they just opened a new Gold's Gym. Trying to see if this would be something worth the investment. They have childcare so that's why I'm wondering!

I'm a member. Only decent gym in my area. No using chalk though...

    Varies greatly by franchise.
    Ours is cheap and busy.
And they are slowly getting rid of the GOOD weight training equipment in favor of more crap machines.

Yes, varies greatly. Not just in rules but also in culture.

The one in our town was the best gym around. Inexpensive $25/month. Great equipment - large free weight ares, multiple squat racks and mulitple machines for each body part. The members were workout focused, polite, and re-racked weights. Sadly, it was bought by a large nearby upscale fitness center that needed members - and they shut the location down.

Other Gold's I visited were mixed in quality of both people and equipment.

I have attended the local Gold's gym since January, myself.

Pretty solid establishment in general. I pretty much avoid going during the busiest hours though because you can be stuck waiting for a while for whatever weights you want to do. Only one decent squat rack too, which kind of sucks, but it's better than what I've seen at most other local gyms I've been to.

My brother belonged to Golds and it seemed like the quality varied by location A LOT! If yours looks good then go for it. The one closest to me is pretty bad. I wouldn't join it if it were the last gym on the planet. But the one by my parents place is really nice and I wouldn't hesitate to join that one.

I love going my Gold's and have the membership where I can go to any location nationwide. I live in Vegas but currently am in DC area for the month - and the workers at this Gold's are just as nice as back home!

One thing I could recommend for any gym regardless of name is to really look at the contract. Am I getting locked into a two year contract? What's the cancellation policy?? Is there a yearly maintenance fee, etc...
