dude, that a hard question to answer for fresno , 3 hours to Sf , 3 hours to LA , 3 hours to yosimite , 3 hours to the beach , best tri tip steach sandwich in the world , conservative , a family kind of city
  • I live in Manila, Philippines and I got to admit that the things I dislike about here far outweighs those that I like. The thing that I like here is that being in the capital, I have easier access to all the international airports, embassies, government offices, biggest business districts, elegant hotels, fancy restaurants and of course the chic western lifestyle.

I had 6 week vacation in your neck of the woods and I had a ball. but I rented a convertible car, not the best choice when the temperature reached 116° F.

    New York City...

    1. Awesome public transit, can get basically anywhere I need to go. (yay no need for a car)
    2. There is *always* something to do.
    3. All of the wonderful cultural things/museums.
    4. Central Park.
    5. People are actually surprisingly nice/helpful if you give them the chance. (I know NYers have a rep for being mean/rude, but mostly I think that we're just in a hurry compared to most places)

    Jerusalem:
3,000 years of history, which is seen everywhere you go.
People from different backgrounds and religions manage to live together with very little fractions.
The weather is really good, never too hot or too cold.
    Nightlife's actually super awesome!

We have an awesome town square where the town hosts multiple family events throughout the year - all free. During the summer there are outdoor movies, concerts, and theater performances, and during the holidays the main street gets all prettied up. It's like the ideal small town, family atmosphere, but with all the conveniences close by. I know all my neighbors and see them regularly. Low crime, lovely neighborhoods, and a whopping 3 minute commute to work for me. I love it here.

    - in the winter down by the river is absolutely gorgeous (if you can stand the cold temps)

Thats really all i know... if you asked me what was sh!tty about it ... I could give you a list a mile long.

    1) The infrastructure for mass production/distribution isn't here so nearly all our food is local, organic & free range.
    2) South Africa is big on nature preserves (compared to the US) so I don't have to go far to get out of the city.
    3) I swear I can't explain it but the sky is bigger & the sun warmer in SA.
    4) It's cliche, but I can literally walk down the street to play with lion cubs. There are so many lion cubs.
    5) When I go for runs I chance seeing zebra, rhino, boks & monkeys hanging out in their natural environment.
  • 1. There are parks/playgrounds all over the place, from our house there are 3 within walking distance and another one that is good biking distance.

    2. The public libraries rock! The 2 closest to me have amazing children's areas, and one of them is within walking distance.

    3. I've heard in MI you are never more than 5 miles from some body of water. Not sure if that is true but I'm only about a mile from a river that leads to a bay.

    4. I live in a historic logging community, there are lots of historic buildings and homes which are really great.

    5. Even if my town doesn't have something, we are pretty close to bigger cities that other stores and attractions. In 30 mins or less I can get pretty much anywhere I want to go.

Sacramento is the one metropolitan area in California where the quality of life isn't ruined by overcrowding. We don't have to sit in traffic for hours every time you want to go somewhere.
Our shows, theater, and cultural events are not exactly world class, usually. But I can leave my house 20 minutes before performance time, park for free on the street, and be in my seat when the curtain goes up.
Also, it is the only place in California where families still live in the same house that grandpa, or great grandpa, did. (California does not go back much more than four generations.) People tend to be so new and transient here, you can sign a three-month lease on an apartment.

The small town feel even though we are in one of the largest metro areas in the country. Close to two major airports (makes airfare a bit cheaper), we have decent schools, lots of lakes (read: reservoirs) and a decen river. We have all kinds of museums, concerts, plays, restaurants... we have great parks.... and access to any major pro-sport, football, baseball, hockey, basketball, and soccer.

Now if only we could get decent mass transit to get to all these places without a car.

    1. 90% Military
    2. Not a huge city, but not in the woods either, good balance overall
    3. Minimal number of Liberal Democrats and hippies.
    4. Gun laws in NC are some of the best in the country, i can pretty much open carry anywhere.
    5. Very small percentage of crime, since everyone is armed(last 2 home invasions that were on the news, on both cases, the intruders were shot on site)
6.Nice weather, good balance between summer and winter, though it does get pretty hot
    7.A lot of outdoor activities
    8.Polite people
9.Easy to find competition events of any kind.
