Stand-up desk results?

Hey guys. I just recently asked for a stand-up desk at my job. I've had it for about a month now and I stand up all day, even though I have the option to sit if I need to. I have seen results in my legs and butt, but I haven't lost any pounds and my stomach is not getting any smaller....I'm confused...every calorie calculator I have used and blog I have read says I should be burning an extra 800 calories a day minimum. I am about 190 so I have plenty room to lose and I see no reason why my body would be immune to the extra calories being burned. I realize I am building muscle in my legs and bum but how far does that go before I start to lose in other areas? I eat mostly healthy (just like I did when I sat down all day, no change in calorie intake) and I even walk or jog every evening. I really thought the stand up desk would make a big difference and though I love standing up all day, I'm kind of frustrated and annoyed. Are these calorie calculators all wrong? Anyone else have experience with losing weight from a stand up desk? Standing for 8 hours and almost no results here :(

p.s. If I put even four hours of standing in my excercise log, I'm left with at least 700 extra calories every evening that i'm not using and still no weight loss. Something is not adding up!

  • Hi there,

I know you posted this a while ago but I was just doing a topic search because I've been using my standing desk exclusively (no sitting at all) for almost a year and I haven't been losing weight either. I definitely notice some nice muscles in my calves and thighs and if my butt were a little less padded I might notice there as well. My energy level and productivity has increased, but since there has been no weight loss, I'm a bit apprehensive about adding it to my calorie counter.

Maybe we just need to move around a bit more. I found this: http://lifehacker.com/5484742/simple-exercises-you-can-do-at-your-standing-work-station

I'm doing figure 8s right now. It definitely feels ridiculous, but I'm already noticing that my feet feel strained.

    Are you still standing?

You may not be seeing demonstrable improvements in your physique, but the science says a standing desk has many important metabolic benefits. So you are not doing nothing.
