Crabs?

How should I be weighing my crabs? I'm charged by the lb right out of the tank but I'm not eating the shell so I can't go by that weight. Do I weigh the whole crab, just the meat after it's been cooked, which means shelling the damned thing and postponing my enjoyment or do I just eat the meat and then weigh the leftover crab carcass and use the difference?

Damn you CRABS!!

They're pretty much pure protein....If you are that worried about it weigh the crabs with the shells and meat.......eat the meat..........weigh what is left............log the difference.

I've found weighing whole/refuse is a good method if you choose diary entries for cooked, meat only type deals...

I should eat the meat then weigh myself? Maybe weigh myself before and after eating the meat to get an accurate #.

Try looking at this link: http://www.oregondungeness.org/cooking.shtml

Not sure if this helps at all but it says the yield is about 25%. So for a 2lb crab, you'll get about 1/2 lb of meat.

    No..not weigh yourself..lol.

He was saying weigh the crab overall, than eat the crab meat and weigh the empty shell to get the difference....

Which is a good idea. Kudos to you sir :)

I'm sorry but lmao! You weigh the remaining (now meatless) shell, not yourself.

I'll be weighing myself after the meal anyway so why not? I don't get why you're laughing.

The other option is to weigh yourself before you eat/drink anything. weigh any food/drink that you have during this time. Make sure not to go to the bathroom.....if you do....weigh it. At the end weigh yourself again taking into account these factors and a coeficient of .0032 BW/hour (pre eating weight) to account for fluid sweat out.

i.e. before you weigh 122 (even though I know you are really like 105 this is just for example)
You have 16 oz of water and 8oz of hush puppies
    You have a #2 that weighs 9oz.
all of which is over the course of an hour so you should weigh

    122+1.5-.75 = 122.75
Then you take into account the fluid sweat out =
    122 * .0032 = .39 (we'll round up to .5 for simplicity sake)

So at the end of the meal.....not counting the crabs you should weigh 122.25. But when you weigh yourself you are 123.5. That is 1.25lbs of crab meat or 20 oz........or 560 grams.

    You are welcome.
