  • I had a major blowout day when I took a trip to Old Trafford to see my team with one of my (very overweight) chums. I managed to scarf down a bacon and egg sandwich, a Whopper with cheese meal, 2 donuts, a muffin, a footlong steak and cheese and a load of cookies in 1 day. I totted it up this morning and it came to 4200 calories!!!!! I had my head in my hands. My limit is 1660!!:blushing: I had a double workout, had a decent lunch, decided to forgive myself but just eat normally accepting that I couldn't work off/undereat the deficit this week and just accept that we all have the odd really crazy day.

You could go for a walk and burn off those 52 calories. It will make you feel less guilty, you'll be back in your calorie range, and you'll be getting the exercise :) If you plan on eating out, plan on exercising.
Also I've been told to go on a weekly average of calories. It's inevitable that some days you will go over, some days you will be under. If you don't feel like exercising, maybe you could aim for 10 calories under for the next 5 days?
Good luck and don't give up!

Don't feel bad. I did the same thing on my first day of logging calories. I happened to find this website in the middle of the day so I had already ate the food from Mcdonald's. It really opened my eyes to the huge amount of calories atfast food places. I rarely eat McDonald's anymore. The very last time I went for my normal, a couple months ago, I was shoked that I used to really love that stuff.

Before today, you would not even have considered the number of calories your meal cost you. The fact that you did is a small victory; you're going to be fine!

A- most of us ARE in the red when we first start, it takes a week or so to get use to eating differently

B- 52 calories is nothing! It takes a few hundred over each day to gain weight.

C-don't go to Mc Donald's unless it is for their pancakes, which are still not healthy, but the only think on their menu I like.

D-it is good to have fun with your grandson and make memories, YAY for that!

To be honest, it's days like this that help you figure out where you're going wrong and gives you other ideas on how to fix it.. A failure is only a failure if you don't learn from it. If you learn from it, it's not a failure, but an experience. :)

Are you planning on working out today? If yes, then don't even worry about going over 52 cal.

I agree with the top post.

    1. Don't go to McDonald's
    2. DO NOT GIVE UP!

We all have our bad days.

    Good luck to you :)
  • Don't worry. From what I've read, it's normal to get some water weight gain while you're in the red. Don't hesitate to get some exercise in too, as it helps with cramping. Good luck! :flowerforyou:

If you do go to McDonalds again check the nutrition calculator befor you go that way you will know exactly what you can have and not go over. 32 calories is no big deal I have seen people triple there calorie intake before.

Since you are just starting out, that's ok. You won't be perfect. You have to fix old habits and you are just figuring things out!

Don't beat yourself up- take today as today, and make an effort to be better tomorrow!

    Good luck!

This site is an incredible tool for learning how to eat better. Don't beat yourself up over bad days~ just learn from them and apply to next time. You'll be making better choices in no time if you just stick with it. Start scoping out restaurants and establishments for their lower calorie options so that you'll know ahead of time what is best.

btw~ I ate a (what I later found out to be) 1,100 calorie salad from Walmart my first day. I learned quickly!!! lol

Don't beat yourself up. -52 is not bad at all. I've gone in the red a lot worse than that. There some ok choices if you do go to McDonald's. A lot of times if I go there I'll get one of their smaller sammys (ok not a great choice there) and a side salad.

I just ate a wendys grilled chicken wrap with no sauce and a small chili and I don't feel guilty about it! It was about 440 calories, which is about what I average for lunch anyway. I just made sure to check their website before going to order. That way I knew exactly what I could and could not have from their menu! Also, watch out for the salads at those places - a lot of them can run you 700-1000 calories!

You've probably burned those 52 calories just by typing your message and reading all of the reply messages. If not that way, then they'll definitely be burned off while you sleep. No stress. No worries.

I agree with everyone else; the fact that you are in this site and that you logged your food and are beginning to be aware of your eating and how many calories things actually are is HUGE victory. Celebrate every small step and forgive the missteps quickly. If you linger on it, it will only make moving forward harder. We all go over sometimes. It happens. It will take you time to get into new habits and even then, I think it's absolutely okay to plan a cheat meal here and there. If you constantly feel deprived it will lead to overeating later and make it that much easier to give up. Anyway, I'm proud of you for taking this first step. Feel free to add me; I think that support and accountability is a huge part of this journey.

ok so I have to add my 2 cents... I happen to be a GM for McDonald's and by no means am I going to tell you that the food is ok to eat.. But there are some healthy choices no matter what fast food chain you eat at... You can choose to eat a bigmac, or you can eat a parfait.and a salad. I eat there 2x's a day because I work there.. some days i bring in my own lunches.. but have been able to adapt things on their menu to fit into my plan.. I have lost over a hundred pounds and have done this with eating some McDonald's once in awhile.. If you can't control what you put in your mouth, than it doesn't matter where you eat!
Oh and for the person that suggested you check out what's in a chicken nugget, I will tell you it's 100% whole white chicken breast.. yes it's breaded.. yes it's fried.... but it isn't made with beaks and guts either....
Don't be too hard on yourself for being in the red for one day..Practise makes perfect! find out what works for you, and work on educating yourself about nutrition. It's all about proportions, and control...
    Best of luck to you!

You can eat out anywhere really just learn to make smarter choices you should go on there website look at the food and decide what you want before you go
  • I went 504 into the red on my first day! I thought I was being so careful, obviously not. They do say that people underestimated their calorie intake and they're right!
