51lb down.

This morning, I crossed the 50lb mark (and then some).
That's 51 pounds in 82 days.
To celebrate, I went down to the gym and signed up for a six month contract. Then I hit the treadmill ... did 2.5 miles in 42 minutes at roughly 3.5 mph. After that I swam half a mile (16 laps) at the pool (front crawl). I did a little weight lifting on the power cage (30 reps @ 70lbs) just to round things out.
All in all, it was a great day! :drinker:
I wasn't planning on making a big deal of 50lb, as my next short-term goal weight is 300lb. I still have a ways to go to 300 (314.2 currently), but I'm closing in on it. I should be there by the end of April (at least) and that's fine with me.
But, it turns out 50lb meant more to me than I thought it did. Something about crossing that line makes me want to push myself even harder.
I'm feeling great these days. My wife can wrap her arms around me now and lace her fingers behind my back. My daughter can actually sit on my lap when I read her a story. My coworkers have begun to notice too and have been complimenting me. I feel much more confident these days as my self-esteem increases. I even went shopping last night for smaller shirts!
I still have a long ways to go, and I know it's not a sprint ... But when I project where I could be by the end of the year ... even in just a few months if I can just maintain this level of enthusiasm ... It makes me wonder just how far I could take this.
I'll admit, joining this site and changing my lifestyle was a reaction to the sudden realization that if I continued on my present course of action ... I would die. Literally, every day was worse than the one before. Every day I was just a tiny bit more miserable than yesterday. If you had asked me then, I doubt I would have even thought I could lose 50lb.
Now I'm thinking ... am I in it to win it? Can I really take this all the way?
I don't know the answer to that yet.
All I know is that right now, every day is better than the one before. Every day I have more energy. Every day I feel a bit healthier.
I guess a little success goes along way.

Chris,
Thats a really open and honest post. I guess one has to reach a point where one is sick and tired of being sick and tired. I am fed up with being fat, I too have had enough of doing this to my self esteem and fed up with shopping for what sizes are availble and feeling that I look crap. Fed up with SQEEEEEZING myself into a coach seat on the airplane, fed up with the look people give me when I get on the jet all thinking "I hope he is not in the seat next to me, fed up with listering to my wife say "your not fat, just well built", fed up with feeling worth....less.
Whats interesting is that losing weight is techncially not difficult. Eat less is the simple truth, but losing weight is a mind set, a thought process and an attitude.
You have the attuitude going on! You know the tools to use, take it to a place your happy with, and stay there.
Chris well done, your post inspired me.

That's brilliant news and I think the enthusiasm keeps growing with every pound you lose (well it does with me) which urges you on to push more! My only thoughts are why didn't I do this before! Well done - keep up the good work!0

What a wonderful feeling--losing more than half a pound a day! Congratulations! And as you get closer to your goal, the weight loss may slow down, but you will still be losing. Measuring yourself about once a week will reassure you that weight loss is still occurring. You are my inspiration today. Thank you. I lost 10 lbs in the month before I came to this site and have lost 5 lbs in the last 18 days.
Thank you, again, for your story.0 -
WOW! That is FANTASTIC! Your story is great motivation for me!! Thanks!0

Thanks for all the great comments! This site really is what keeps me going. :flowerforyou:
Here's a couple photos, just as a reference.

Current (03/27/2010):
The similarity between the two pictures is purely coincidental. I rarely wear white.0 -
Wow - what difference. Your doing so well. Just think of how much healthier you are and how healthy you about to become.0

Sorry your story made me cry! The part where you started talking about your wife being able to hug you and your daughter being able to sit with you while you read to her. It is the little things in life that we don't always see how our weight affects them. Congrats on the 50 lbs mark! I think you will surprise yourself once you are motivated there is no turning back! I think it is important to award yourself as you go and set up mini goals. Well good luck to you on your continued journey and getting under the 300 mark. My 200 mark is right around the corner too. We should hit it about the same time! :bigsmile:0

That is a great "mile marker" post, and your photos really show the difference. Keep it up! I look forward to more mile marker posts from you.0
