Gift Advice

Okays.

So I found a really nice leather wallet, that I love, and I'm thinking of buying it for the man. He already has a wallet though. Obviously, doesn't everyone? So, dear guys of MFP. If your girlfriend got you a wallet for Xmas, would you swap all your stuff over and use it, or would you think "Oh great, a generic gift that I don't need or want."

Should I get it?

How long has he had his current wallet? Is it falling apart or looking old? If so, get him the wallet, if not, find another idea.

I'm picky about my wallets. I received a wallet as a gift and I never used it. Can't speak for him though. :\

Does he like his current wallet? Is the one you're wanting to get similar? Most men I know are a tad particular about their wallets but that may just be the guys I know.

Get something very similar to what he has already, i.e. if his wallet is a black trifold, get another black trifold.

Ah. Here's the part where I look like an awful girlfriend... I have no idea. We're long distance, and we won't be together for Christmas, but when we're together I guess I don't pay much attention to his wallet.

If you think he will like it, I'd say get it. Seems like you genuinely want to give him a good gift, so I'm sure he'll appreciate it.

It depends. I have wallet I would REALLY have a hard time giving up. If his current wallet is just falling apart and he's hinted at replacing it, I'd say go for it. If he has complained about what he currently carries, go for it.

If I likes what he has, and it's in good condition, he may or may not carry it.

I also keep a money clip around I carry when traveling. I carry my cash, 1 card, and DL in the clip in my front pocket. I usually have my wallet with me, but not always carried on my body.

get it for him and put a good photo of yourself inside. That would put the gift up a level. Since your having a long distance relationship a photo inside would be great.
  • My wife did this one year for me. I held on to the wallet for about 3 years. Once the wallet I had at the time wore out, I switched wallets.
  • Wallets and shoes are things that I do not like to have purchased for me. It never works out.

Hm. I'm gonna get it, with a photo+ letter inside. I keep one of his letters inside mine always, so I'l write one for him.

    Thanks for the help!

My husband has a certain style wallet he likes and even after 14 years of marriage, it's not something I buy for him unless he picks it out. Make sure it's the brand, style, size and fold he likes and if he doesn't, don't be offended.
