Gaining weight from exercise?

Options
So, I gained a couple of lbs since I started exercising again. My pants are fitting the same imo but I haven't tried measuring myself.
Could this be muscle gain or should I be concerned? I have been going running for about a month now usually for 20-40 minutes a day, then I come home and do a simple HIIT work out and stretch. Oh and on my rest days I usually walk at least 30 minutes with a stroller(I have a two year old)

Is it normal to gain some lbs before losing or should I switch up my diet more?

It could be water weight or you're gaining muscle.
Muscle does weigh more than fat.

How many calories are you eating. If you are eating at a deficit it isn't muscle gain. If you just started working out again it is probably just water weight.

A kilogram of muscle weighs the same as a kilogram of fat. It's the density that is different - muscle tissue is far more dense.

Take your measurements. The scale alone is not an accurate picture of your progress. If you look at my pics you will see a before/after pic in there. I look like I lost 20lbs in the pics, when, in fact, I didn't lose a pound. I just decreased my body fat and built muscle.

Likely the muscles retaining some water, usually there will be a small initial weight gain.

You can gain weight exercising though if you focus your eating and exercise towards weight gain, I've actually gone from 159 to ~180 since April, lol.
