figure out how many calories are in your favorite holiday treats beforehand - then when you're confronted with them you can decide whether you really really want to waste that many of your calories on a few seconds of mouth satisfaction. When you know that one little cookie has more calories than a more satisfying healthy treat it might help you veer towards the lower calorie option. It's a trick that works for me....most of the time0

I am trying very hard not to go to parties or events hungry. i have a healthy snack en route and carry water with me at all times, then if i want to taste something i am not ravenous and thus making the item be way better than it may normally be. I mail fail at times, but i just have to make a better choice next time. Some people say one day at a time - for me, it comes to a conscious decision literally one bite at a time. I am FAR from there -but my conscious awareness of what i put in my mouth and the aftermath of it changes how i view food, the emotions that go with it and the pressure from others to indulge, it really is the only thing i am in control of, me.0

I went to my first holiday party saturday. I didnt do great because if i drink i tend to want to eat. So this week for my work holiday party i decided to eat beforehand and drink alot of water. It doesnt start till 7 so i know i can get dinner and my 64ox of water in for the day. i takes alot of willpower, that even i have a hard time with and i have lost nearly 50lb. Just try to plan ahead and if you know the menu...figure your calories out.0

If I know I'm going to a big dinner, I eat low-cal all day so then if I do eat a lot, I'm not way over my regular calorie limit. By low cal I don't mean starvation because that is what will make you ravenous by dinner time! I also try to drink lots of water, green tea & oolong tea to hopefully boost my metabolism.
At an actual dinner, I limit myself to 1 plate and I try to take normal serving sizes (1/2 cup, or 4 oz if it's meat). Uding a medium-sized plate helps too to trick yoursflf into thinking you're eating a lot. And I only take what I will REALLY enjoy or only get around this time of year. For example I LOVE turkey stuffing, sweet potatos, turnips & waldorf salad so I will take some of that. Food like turkey, gravy, meat pie, mashed potatos, etc I don't mind skipping.
For parties/drinking events, I stick to low-cal drinks. A shot of Southern Comfort, vodka, whiskey, etc is 65-100 calories so if you put those shots in diet soda (zero calories) it is low cal. I like rum with diet coke, and soco with diet 7up. I know ppl are against diet sodas for the aspartame but it saves calories, the bubbles make you feel full & if it's only once a week then what does it matter? Beer, store-bought mixed drinks or cocktails made with juice pack a lot of carbs, sugars & calories!0 -
PS. I wouldn't advice only doing shots as a way to drink. A shot (unaccompanied by anything) won't fill you up as much as a drink so you will want more. And just drinking shots is hard for the liver to breakdown.0

Replace high starchy vegetables with low starchy vegetables. I.e. instead of potatoes, using rutabagas.
Find what will trigger you to eat more and avoid or eliminate it. Become accountable for your actions and the rest will fall into place.0 -
Take healthy food to share others may be trying to cut back too and bring a bottle of water and enjoy the party:drinker:0

Only fill your plate once, and don't pile it sky high the first time! Only one alcoholic beverage per night/party. Don't hang with people who binge on food.0

Have an @$$ of a boss that denies vacation request for Christmas off. I worked Thanksgiving too, and will have to work all of New Year's as well.0
