I've done P90X before and I really did not like it because of all the weight lifting and chin ups.

A friend told me that she liked insanity better because it uses your body more than P90 does. If you have used both of these programs before could you rate it for me/ give me your opinions to the pros and cons.

I'd like a good honest opinion before I invest the money.

If you don't like lifting, why do P90X? I personally LOVE it, but if I didn't like lifting I wouldn't do it. You need to choose whatever you will enjoy so you know you will stick with it.
  • Unfortunately, it's like comparing apples and oranges. If you don't like weights, you won't like P90X. If you don't like Plyometrics, you won't like Insanity.

    ^^ Exactly!

A FUN workout that is effective may be Turbo Fire for you... she is upbeat and fun and less Plyo action.

I personally liked P90X because I got if for free...lol (doesn't mean I finished it).

    What are plyometrics?
Jumping. Lots of jumping. I think they are great but my downstairs neighbors disagree.

I have done both. I liked Insanity better. Simply because the workouts were more manageable timewise. The name clearly fits the workout! I was spent many days after just the warm up :) I started warming up before the warm up! Great workout though!

    What are plyometrics?

A lot of jumping. Agility movements. Usually done to increase athletic performance/endurance.

I love them and I can see the difference in my running since I started doing them.

I did P90 because my husband had bought it and was doing it.

I loved the cardio, plyo, and yoga.

I was not a fan of the push ups and chin ups (however, I know I needed it). I had good results but at the end was dreading it just because I didn't like certain parts.

I am a runner but I need to incorporate something else into my workout for variation over the winter. I thought Insanity may be the answer.

Your responses were quite helpful thus far. Thanks!

Insanity has lots of pushups. Pushup drills, single arm pushups (in the second month), pushup jacks, walking pushups, you will push the up. No pull ups though. Pretty fair amount of plyo, cardio, some yogaish stuff, but usually at least 50 or so pushups per DVD, more in month two. That said, I enjoyed the Insanity workouts pretty well, and they definitely improved my run times.

I kind of disagree. I love lifting however P90X was not my video of choice because I would need to buy pieces of equipment and I already lift at the gym.

I am not a huge fan of Plyometrics however I bought Insanity for the vigorous cardio. I plan on continuing my lifting at the gym along with doing the videos.
