Does anyone else have fibromyalgia

Hi my name is Joy I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia last thursday at first it was relief to finally have a name for the condition that has bothered me for the last 2 years but now feel a bit sad about it. I had a really bad day yesterday with chronic pain across my shoulders, neck, right wrist and forearm with my wrist being the most painful. It was so bad I had to ask my husband to peel potatoes for me. I also felt so tired i slept on the settee from 19.00 to 21.00 hrs then had to put the kids to bed and then crashed again at 23.00 but slept very poorly. I couldn,t workout i felt so rough. Today i still have pain but not as bad and still feel fatique.
This is awful i love working out and work out 6 days a week I can,t imagine life without exercise so feeling like this yesterday has thoroughly depressed me. I do a combination of weight lifting and running with the odd DVD thrown in my rheumatologist has encouraged me to keep up this level of activity but listen to my body. I suppose I am looking for support as everything i have read on the internet is so depressing. My main pain areas are shoulders, neck, wrists, hips and shins. I have been prescribed Amitryptiline 10-20 mg at night and ibuprofen for the pain.

Hi. I have fibromyalgia as well as ME and Hypermobility Syndrome...and other related problems. If you want to send me a friend request we can talk to each other about it. I know quite alot of people with ME but nobody with fibro. Oh, and I'm in the UK as well. xxx
  • Me! I also have Ehlers-Danlos and a few other issues. I just had knee surgery in Nov., and I am slowly getting back into exercising. Right now it's Wii Tennis in my wheelchair.

I have fibromyalgia: diagnosed 2 years ago. I feel your pain. Some days are worse than others but I just keep plugging away. I've mostly focused on my eating since I have trouble exercising but I love to walk and wish I could do more of it. I just take it one day at a time:smile: Good luck and feel free to add me!

I have Fibro, as well as several other issues that frequently co-occur with it. That's a very low dose of the Amitriptyline. Was your doc going to be raising it over time? I take 50, and I find it extremely helpful. Have you tried applying heat or ice? It's amazing how much of a difference that can make. My main trouble spots are my back, and around my hips, and I find heat very helpful there.

Thanks for your replies its good to know others are in the same position and know how you cope. I got the letter this morning from the consultant and it says in there to increase the dose of amitryptiline to 30mg slowly over the next few weeks, not sure how this will work out as i feel like I have had a night out on the town after taking 10mg, Taking 20mg tonight I will see how it goes. The consultant has discharged me and said my GP can manage the fibro the trouble is my GP is reluctant to prescribe things so will probably have battle on my hands. I am taking the odd ibuprofen apart from the amitryptiline but this gives me indigestion so at the moment I am just trying to cope with the pain. I can,t let this condition beat me I have 3 children and 2 of them have special needs (autism and ADHD) and I suspect my daughter also has ADHD. I need to be strong for them as my husband doesnt cope I literally do everything for them. I work as a midwife and work mainly nights I don,t think this helps at all but nights fit better around the kids. Apart from fibro I also suffer from from Raynauds disease, IBS and oesophagitis. I have been tested in the past as being intolerant to gluten, dairy and eggs but currently not following a special diet, do any of you follow a special diet and does it help. I eat very healthily with lots of fruit and veg try to eat higher protein but have a liking for breakfast cereal. Any tips on coping would be appreciated had a couple of bad days this week and feeling a bit scared by this. If anyone wants to add me as a friend I would be grateful.
