How Late at Night do You Eat...?

PLEASE read my actual question!!! I KNOW eating late at night won't affect your weight LOSS! I am asking if it will affect the number on the SCALE cause your body hasn't finished digesting what you ate so late the night before.
to avoid it affecting your weigh in in the morning? Or don't you notice it affecting your weigh in?
This week Saturday-Monday I was at one weight. I finished eating those days probably before 9pm. Tuesdays weigh in and today's weigh in I was up TWO pounds!! These days I ate my last food between 10-11pm. I weight at 7:20 in the morning. Will I still be holding on to the food from last night and that's why my weight is higher or is there a different reason. Monday I ate within my calories and tuesday I was about 100 calories over.
I don't really care as much about my everyday weigh in's but I want it to be accurate on my official friday weigh ins.
I save around 900 calories for after work and my last food on those days were a 2 big bowls of yogurt with raspberries the first day, and a big bowl of yogurt and raspberries and 2 pizza muffins.
Thanks

I don't care about the time of day I eat. In the long run it doesn't matter because if there is a downward trend it would eventually show even on your highest weigh in date. Just eat the amount of calories per day you need and don't worry about how late you eat. Snack in bed watching Late Night if you want.
  • The only reason I don't eat too late is it gives me heartburn. Blah!

I have no time limits. I work different shifts every week so could never have a regular routine. Sometimes I eat 20 minutes before going to bed. It's never seemed to make a difference.

No time limits for me either.

I can admit that I try to avoid eating after dinner (around 7pm) but this is simply because I have a habit of snacking compulsively in the later hours while watching a show or playing video games.

I also don't CARE at all when I eat at night, however these last 2 days I weigh MORE than my last official weigh in by a good pound. You guys aren't answering my question. Will eating at 10-11pm show a gain on the scale cause my body has finished digesting what I ate?

I seriously doubt it. It probably has more to do with water weight than anything. You're sleeping 6-8 hours which is plenty of time for your body to digest the food and use some of it for energy. I would say little to on effect on your weight eating later.

I tend not to eat after about 6pm for no other reason than my OH works nights and needs to eat and go out by 19.15pm. As I am up early I am in bed around 21.00 I dont find the need to have anything after dinner

Ok, so how come I am weighing 2 pounds more now even though I am eating the same types of foods in about the same amounts as I was a few days ago when I was 2 pounds less?

Was your sleep and rest patterns exactly the same? Water intake? Stress? It could be a number of factors that attributed to it.

Yes, quite likely. Still not worth worrying about. The number on the scale in the morning is one of the most meaningless measures of your progress.

ETA: To be clear - don't change anything about your regime simply to try to control the scale. (unless you're weighing in for a boxing match or fitness competition).

    time of month
    sodium intake
    alignment of planets
    different exercises
    not pooping
any combination of above or even other influences.

Are you drinking less water? If you aren't drinking enough water and your food is high in sodium you're going to retain the water you do drink which will equal a higher number on the scale.

Also you could just need to poop. True story.

you have to log it on the next day.....\m/
  • I do intermittent fasting so I only eat between 7pm and 11pm. If I weigh in first thing in the morning it'll show more than if I weigh myself in the afternoon.

If I eat before bed [after 10pm], yes it does show on the scale the next day but I know it's not a fat gain because I can feel the water retention. Typically it's up to 3lbs. If I dont eat late at night then it balances out the next few days.

Ok, thanks guys. I think on thursday night before my official weekly weigh in I will try to have my last food at around 9 and see if it makes any difference. I may have drank a little less the past couple days so I will try to bump that back up again. My sleep patterns were about the same though I should try to get to bed before 12 so I can get a bit more sleep.

Just an update. Last night I ate about the same amount of food as normal, same kinds of food, and ended up not getting in any more water than I have been the last few days, but I DID finish eating around 9 or so. This morning I was back down the 2 pounds. Could be coincidence, but it was interesting to note.
