What am I doing wrong ...

I am too weak and tired to do the exercise routine I have had set up by a personal trainer. It involves cardio and strength training. Can I do the cardio one day and strength the next? I cant do it all in one day

Sure! I used to do strength one day, cardio the next and etc. etc. and I lost 30lbs. Mind you, I was also going to the gym Mon-Fri.0

Are you struggling because youre not very fit yet? When your personal trainer was showing you what to do could you do it then? I'm a bit surprised/concerned your trainer has set you up with an exercise plan you cant do! Maybe you should go back and speak to him about and and get him to set you up with a more suitable plan or get some advice on how to make the most of your workouts. Failing that then I'd suggest you do as much as you can, push yourself but dont injure yourself.
Also, are you eating enough to give you enough energy to do the workout?0 -

I'm not sleeping much and am under a lot of pressure so I don't think that is helping. I had been very unwell the week leading to my appointment so did not go through the entire routine with the personal trainer. I have to say that I can do more with the personal trainer there but I still couldnt do the full routine... it is really full on and takes an hour and a half.
I am meant to do the full routine mon, wed, fri and then just the cardio tues and thursday.0 -
An hour and a half is a long workout, especially if you're just starting out, and coupled with not sleeping well and stress - no wonder you don't have the energy to get through it!
I've been working out over the past three years, steadily for nearly a year now, and I rarely workout over an hour per day. Sounds like your trainer has you doing too much. With the load you're already carrying with being a mom and going to school, a good 30 minutes of cardio or strength (alternating days) would probably be just right for you.
I'm no personal trainer, but from what I've read about other people's experiences with them, I'm not sure too many of them know what they're doing! As a busy mom myself, I can tell you that I started with 30 minutes or less a day for exercise, and it was a good start. No sense in running yourself into the ground with exercise - then you have zero energy for the workout, or for your daily routine! If you can watch your food intake closely and make sure you're getting good nutrition, as much rest as you can for a single mom of two, and try to get that 30 minutes of exercise 4 or 5 days a week, I think you'd start to see some results.0 -
Thanks, great advice and makes me feel better... Feel like I am failing in a daily basis by not getting the routine done. It is full on too, after 15 mins full on with the elliptical trainer I am meant to do 70 leg presses with 50kgs, then 3 x sets of 12 on leg left machine. My legs are jelly after the trainer haha Thats only the first 20mins.
I think I will do alternate days of each which is 40mins i can handle.0 -
You are just starting out and an hour and a half is a long workout. Separating your strength & cardio is fine! As long as your doing something! The beginning of a lifestyle change is difficult and can be very challenging to the mind & body Eat enough feul for your body, rest it and work hard during your workouts0
