So I'd been wondering for a while what my blood sugar levels would be. I got tested about a month ago, and my blood sugar level when all I had was a sip of coffee was 87. My BMI is 26, I am 5'6 and weigh 167lbs. I exercise on a regular basis and I am walking around on my feet all day everyday at work. My diet is great some days and sucks other days. Really what I'm looking for is meal plan ideas/foods that will be easy to take to lunch at the elementary school I work at, etc.

87 is pretty normal, especially if your over 30. Was there anything in the coffee you drank or was it black? Really, 87 is fine. If you are truly concerned (you could have issues that your fasting level isn't showing), ask for an HbA1C test.0

I'm 23 and was concerned because I was having a couple of other issues that could be tied to the blood sugar thing as well. I really had one sip of coffee with cream and splenda in it, if that helps. I'm hoping that even losing about 10lbs will help my levels and give me a little more peace of mind.0

The cream in your coffee would raise your blood sugar slightly, depending on how long before your blood draw you had that sip. I wouldn't put much stock in your number, but even if you did, 87 is ok. Diabetic is fasting above 120ish. Pre diabetic is above 100. Completely normal is anything else though given your age, I'd say closer to 80 would be average. I don't think you have an issue but get your HbA1C tested to be sure. Just a blood test and you don't have to be fasting.0

Normal fasting glucose levels are between 70-100. At 87, you're pretty much smack-dab in the middle of normal.
You don't want your fasting glucose to get to low, either. Mine can get down to the low 60s, and I get shaking and confusion (I'm not diabetic, or even pre-diabetic, but hypoglycemia runs in my family, and I may have low thyroid function). I saw 56 once, and it wasn't pretty.0
