How do you determine your friend limits on here?

I, like a lot of you have several friends on MFP that I am coming to realize are young, teenagers with major eating disorders, who also cut and do other assorted things. Some of them truly seem to be trying to beat their demons and working hard and using the support for the best. Some of them seem to use this site just to meet up with others like them so they can brag about the things they do to themselves and to me, it seems that they just feed off of each other (from the comments I see on their posts).

How do you determine who to be friends with and who not to be friends with? I feel bad for them and want to help them but at the same time know 8 times out of 10 that what I say to try to help doesnt matter. But, I also feel guilty deleting them altho the posts make me want to scream!! My sister was anorexic for a few years in high school so I have seen how devastating it can be to the person and to their family. My parents forced her to get help when they came to terms with what she was doing. Now, shes a wonderful, healthy mother of 3 kids. So, I totally understand what they are going thru but at the same time, are you condoning it by staying friends with kids like that when they obviously are posting what they do to themselves for attention???

  • If something makes you uncomfortable, delete them.
I can't have unhealthy friends on her, because it makes me feel like being unhealthy is okay.
I wish them the best, try not to add obvious warning signs, and delete as needed.
They'll have plenty of friends to help them, listen to them, etc.
You won't effect their decisions unless they really want to change.

As a teacher, if it becomes apparent they are under 18, I delete them...

I've mainly just got active forum members that I either follow their posts or they added me. My newsfeed is crazy active thanks to my friends.

hm, that's a good question, and I'm uncomfortable giving advice to kids - yes, I said kids - anyone under 18.
