WiiFit for excersize?

I'm curious if anyone uses their Wii for excersize? If so, what games do you do?
I have a cardio boxing one I just tried the other night, and it was OK. Once I get the moves down, I think it will be more beneficial. I'm thinking about getting a Zumba for it, but I'm looking for some feedback - is it good enough for a workout? Do people see results? I currently do cardio at least 6 days a week & looking to add something else to the mix. I need to tone up and I'm thinking about joining the Y, but want something to do at home as well.

A lot of people poo-poo the Wii but that's what got my wife & I off our butts and back in shape. We started off back in early 2010 with just the program that came with the Wii Fit board. We quickly got bored with that and moved on to EA Sports Active. During that year we both lost about 30 lbs each! We then moved on to EA Sports Active - More Workouts, then version 2 of Sports Active. The workout programs are actually pretty good and really can burn off the calories. The only downside is that they can be a little hard on the legs & feet, and some exercises don't respond well with the controller, or the controller gets awkward to hold. Version 2 of Sports Active is much better since most exercises don't require holding a controller.0

My favourites for Wii are EA Sports Active 2 and Gold's Gym Cardio boxing. I have a pile of other ones I never take out.0

Wii Fit games and Zumba games are nice ways to have some fun while burning calories at the same time. I think the XBox Kinect is better though. Dance central is quite a bit of fun and gets you off the couch and moving. That said, most of those games aren't very intense exercise. The only game I've seen so far that provides what I consider an adequate level of intensity for exercising is Fitness Evolved on the 360 Kinect.
So don't use the WiiFit to replace high intensity exercise or resistance training. But you can absolutely use it to burn some extra calories. And it's infinitely better than being sedentary!0 -

The Gold's Gym Cardio boxing is what I have - I did work up a sweat, just keeping up the beat with my feet! I'm assuming it gets more intense as I get through all the beginning stuff? I'll have to look into the Sports Active 2 maybe.0 -
I've played around with some of the others, but I still go back to the Wii Fit Plus. I can foresee a time when the Fit disc won't get me enough exercise to get my heart rate up high enough for a good workout (that's already happening with tennis) so I'll move to something else. But for now, it's giving me a really good workout
Last night:
20 minutes of Tennis - 90 cals
75 mins of Step, Obstacle Course. Free Step - 460 cals
Let people poo-poo Wii all they want - if it gets you up off the couch, and if it's burning calories (550 cals ain't nothing to sneeze at!) then it's a good thing. And it's just fun!
Someone mentioned the Xbox Kinect - I thought about that, but you really need a lot of space. - just something to consider if you're looking to buy.0 -
if i use my wii fit its mostly just the steps that i do, you can get an extension for your board so its about a 7 inch step instead of the 2 with the board alone, i find it made a huge difference.0

I agree - I have the platform for the board which raises it up to a 7" step.
I just started doing the Free Step - and I can watch TV while I do it and just go in time to the clicks coming out of the remote. It's been giving me a really good workout.0 -
I use the WiiFit faithfully now that the weather has gotten colder (and I don't like the cold)! During the spring and summer months I walk to the track and do two miles and walk back but because of the cold and it being dark I dusted off my Wii that my children gave to me a few Christmas' ago! I LOVE IT....I do the WiiFit (2nd addition) the advanced level and I'm currently doing the 60 day challenge (which I've done before) and I also do the aerobics. This morning I burned 423 calories doing Step Aerobics and 237 calories doing the challenge work-out. It's great I would recommend it! I need to however look for some other challenging games!0

Wii for exercise = awesome ..it's fun and keeps you moving. The zumba one I'm disappointed in. I am doing wrong moves and it tells me I'm doing great..and moves me into next levels...so it's not real accurate with that. BUT just like in zumba class as long as you KEEP MOVING it's a workout.0

I did wii fit for only 30-45 mins and was definitely sore the next day! and I didn't even realize I was getting a workout I was just playing the games on there. I would say its a good way to get a workout on a cold or rainy day when you don't feel like leaving the house. I would also incorporate some other exercise though like strength training, circuit training, and cardio.0

i think you can also get weights for the remotes0 -
I like the Wii fit in 6 disk.0

Wii Fit Plus is what started me off on my weight loss journey! I LOVE it, and still use it to this day.
I generally do the free jogging for 30mins, then free cycling for 30mins, then do the step's for 30mins. It gives me a good burn, up to 500 calories - I have a platform to raise the board while doing my steps which helps me burn more calories ( I use a HRM)0 -
Bumpity Bump:flowerforyou: My #3 Son just dropped of his Wii & the fitness disks for us to try....this topic had great timing.0

I really like the WiiFit Plus, but I haven't used it in a while. It is really great for when you are feeling low energy "Aw, I don't feel like working out" just to get you moving a little and gradually working harder and harder. Plus, the game aspect of it can be fun. Hardcore workout fans don't like it because it doesn't burn nearly as much, it's much gentler IMHO.
I have Gold's Cardio boxing and I really like that, as I love kickboxing, but the lessons are short and I'd like more of a workout when I want to work out! Also I wish it incorporated some actual kicks.
I have EA Sports Active and I don't really care for it, it's like a 30-day program that starts and ends each workout with running in place. I hate running in place! But I've done it for several weeks at a time and it really does give a good workout, and I think I lost some weight using it. But like I said, I hate running in place and I think that ruined it for me.
I tried Zumba from the library and was surprised how much I disliked it. I really, really like ballroom dance, line dancing, country dancing--- but Zumba isn't for me. I'd rather work my waist and definition through kickboxing, which I love.
See if you can check out Wii games from your local library--- save some money and see which ones you like before committing!0 -

I'm getting such an education today! I'll have to check out the library!0 -

Try it again with a heart rate monitor on. That'll tell you if it's any good0
