I'm not sure if this is discussed much, but what are some of your favorite spices?

Given that many of us are likely attempting to eat more vegetables and healthy options, spices can be an overlooked component to making foods more palatable.

I eat large amounts of turmeric and also try to include curry, nutmeg, cinnamon and cayenne pepper. Also, any Indian spices are a favorite of mine. For me personally, the spices I choose are based on their health benefits, though they do "spice up" much of the food I eat.

The ones you named, plus parsley, oregano, basil, garlic. Anything tomato basil is good, garlic, parsely, oregano on chicken is great.

    any spice is good!
I find that the more flavourful my food is the less I tend to eat. I seem to get full faster.
    Its seems more satisfying somehow.
when in doubt put rooster sauce on it.

    Oh goodness, everything!

Cinnamon, turmeric, cumin, 5-spice, nutmeg, curry, cayenne and cardamom top the list.

For herbs I often use rosemary, basil, oregano, thyme, coriander, sage, dill... Fresh when I have it, dried when I don't.

I prefer fresh but don't always have it on hand so I use dried ginger quite a bit too.

    My spice cupboard is overflowing.

We invest in tubs of red pepper flakes and go through several a year.

I am OUT of control with cinnamon. I also like pumpkin pie spice and apple pie spice (which obviously include cinnamon and other spices). I am looking for ideas of spices to add to my soups...so I'm excited about this thread :drinker:

I love cinnamon, saffron, cardamom, nutmeg, and cloves. Lemon pepper and persillade mix are also among my favorites.
  • I prefer to cook with fresh herbs - a bit of rosemary thrown in with boiled chicken is awesome...and I add nutmeg to a lot of recipes. My favorite all purpose seasoning which does contain some salt is by Zender's in Frankenmuth. You can get it online.
