They had a panic attack about Pandora. It was making our internet VERY slow. So I just stream it through my phone all day everyday.

Streaming music blocks the bandwidth on internet usage that your company might want to keep open. They also might not want to hear your music or allow you to have any kind of noise canceling of any sort. I personally just listening to my music on my phone.

And this place is probably worse than March Madness on costing employers money on low producing employees

Probably the live streaming that causes networks to go slower. That is why a lot of places don't allow music sites or youtube, etc.

Yeah we can't stream any music at work either. My cube neighbor and I have a radio that we put on loud enough that only the two of us can hear it. I don't like wearing earphones at work because then I can't hear my boss come up behind me and X out of MFP :)

 I'm GLAD my job hasn't blocked MFP pal yet! Now, some of the links and videos posted in the forums might be blocked but not the site itself. I'm going toassume that they naturally care about our client's information and they are not just being mad at me for bringing sexy back! HA!

I'm surprised that I can still get on to MFP from work too. They block EVERYTHING!! Shopping, forumns, sports, streaming music and videos, etc. There is very little that I can access so I know that MFP will eventually be blocked. But, for now, I can get on.

Our server crashed so they had to reprogram everything and now they have blocked everything. I am using my personal computer for the internet.

depending on your bandwidth and network, just one user streaming can slow down the entire office to a crawl. If someone tried streaming at my old office, you could tell - the whole network damn near shut down.

It takes a lot of bandwidth, and if your office is running too close to capacity, they HAVE to ban it.

Before Facebook is what it's become, we could get on there here at work. But not now, nor any other social sites. And no streaming radio or videos. There are a variety of other sites that are also blocked... It is what it is. Just be happy you can still get on MFP & stream through a phone.

My high school blocked politicaldictionary.com. I needed that to survive my AP Government class, but they blocked it because it was political and could offend somebody. Oh, yeah, I'm sorry, I forgot how offensive basic political terms could be.

Sometimes i think they havent blocked MFP yet becuase they have fitness classes and a gym up in the main office and since we are out in the middle of nowhere they keep MFP unblocked since we cant get to the gym HAHA

I have the rights to my computer because I travel and I have to be able to access wireless equipment.

    BUT

When I'm in the office, on their network, no social media sites at all. No Pandora. But I can shop Amazon until I drop and Iheart is fine. I stream on my phone/docking station so I don't mind if I can't stream online.

They keep talking about blocking Skype, but with 200 employees using it instead of the phone and my clients outside the US using it to communicate they haven't pulled it, yet. I doubt MFP will go anywhere for me.l I don't really care if they block it, I can access it via my app and I work from home often, thus I have my personal computer if I want to get on MFP.

Now, there. You know all my business.

You do realize that the streaming music takes up a lot of bandwidth and is expensive to provide for a building. Perhaps you could get one of those old fashioned radio things or that iPod thingy to use at you desk?
  • Try playlist.com? Maybe a long shot, but it was the only one my internship didn't have blocked out...

    Internet radio sucks up bandwidth.

I agree it shouldn't be allowed in the office.

But I don't see the problem with regular websites. As long as you aren't streaming music or video and it's not inappropriate what gives?

    We work hard dammit!

    (......okay...maybe you guys do, I don't)

If I were working I'd expect to do all nonwork surfing on my own time and my own dime. Is it normal for people to net surf at work now? It's been a long time since I've had a paying job, so things may have changed. Just curious.

Ditto, I work for a university as well. NOTHING is blocked, but I think that's mainly because it's the same internet everyone uses on campus so they really can't put filters on or a lot of things aren't going to be accessible. I can't tell you how many classes use Youtube videos and the like.

I can't access forums on my iPhone app. How do you do that?

If some folks would stop with all the dirty talk.
We wouldn't have to worry about this.

Did you try last.fm or grooveshark? Those usually work when the more popular ones don't. I like grooveshark better.

You have to go through the browser instead of the app
